So my husband's coming home tomorrow. He will be signed up for a visiting nurse and also CNA support. Reading what I can on the net, it looks like this will be covered for 60 days, but can be recertified - maybe ad infinitum. Am I right? (I do have a call in to the elderlawyer) Have any of you dealt with this? We're not talking medicAID here, just the usual medicare and medigap.
There is no nursing home that is a convenient distance away; the only reasonable ones that will take AZ patients are about 20 minutes away and in town traffic (and there's a big construction project going on so the traffic can be terrible). If he were in a nursing home I'd be spending all my time going there! Not to mention the expense. And if he is here at least I don't have to brave traffic to SEE him! SO I'm not going to take the case manager's advice and put him in one, at least not for now.
briegull-I am a home health nurse and I'll be glad to answer your specific questions. Now we are not talking about Hospice home care are we? Under MC your husband will be covered as long as there is a finate time period-not forever. He must be home bound and require a skilled service-like wound care, physical therapy for safety and mobility. While he is receiving skilled care he may also have a CNA for personal care. Make sure you request a visit by a social worker who should be able to set you up with something after discharge. I doubt you will get more than 69 days of service. Just ask and I will try to help. bluedaze (now I'm giving away my identity to the lurkers from the other site and I'll get more nasty messages in my e-mail)
that's great, bluedaze. Why in the WORLD would you get nasty messages? I know about the skilled service; he can always be said to need physical therapy for his bad leg. The hospital social worker is setting stuff up; I don't know when it starts. THANKS! I know I'll be asking more as we go along.
