Anna, it is very important that your husband get a reliable diagnosis. As bluedaze mentioned, drugs that are designed for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease, such as Aricept, may make the symptoms WORSE in FTD patients.
If your husband won't cooperate with the tests that are needed, talk to the doctor about taking him off aricept, to see if that will help.
Dh has had meny tests including MRI ,Scan ,verbal tests written test and has seen two neurologists. He was taking all medications except prozac and aricept prior to diagnosis.Diagnosis was 7 years ago and he has regular checkups with family doc and neurologist. It has never occured to me that it was not AD as he has all the symptoms of stage 5 and a few into six.He also has vascular dementia. The anger presented two years ago and progressed but as I mentioned he was always inclined to be negative.
Starling...I'll be OK but the guilt and sense of failure are difficult. emotions to deal with.
Anna, yes, I know. But honestly, we all deal with guilt and a sense of failure just because we can't make it all better. And you weren't being supported properly to keep him with you. The support you were offered was that he go to them.
About this point they now know that you weren't exaggerating. And honestly, if you let yourself think about it, serves them right, doesn't it?
