Project Lifesaver provides peace of mind to care givers of those who wander due to Alzheimer's, Dementia, Autism, Down Syndrome, Brain Trauma and other related diseases. Project Lifesaver uses Radio Telemetry to track these individuals by placing a battery powered water resistant bracelet on their wrist or ankle. They are assigned a unique radio frequency in the 216 MHz FM band and if they wander they can be tracked using a directional antenna and a receiver. The batteries and bands are changed once per month by representatives from their local Sheriff's Department and caregivers call 911 if their loved one wanders. Please feel free to contact me if you would like, or need, more information. Thank you. PLI can be found at projectlifesaver.org
DH is on the project lifesaver program and I have greater peace of mind since he would wander in a heart beat if he got a chance. The sheriff's dept is very kind when they come out to make the battery change. It did take him a while to get used to the gps bracelet (which we put on his right ankle). He actually broke the plastic band twice. The sheriff said she's never had anyone do that-mostly they cut them off. He's finally accepted it because we tell him it's to monitor his health to make sure he stays strong and healthy. That works for my self absorbed husband.
My DH also has a project lifesaver device. He ripped it off his wrist the second day. Luckily I found it on our bedroom floor. I knew that it wouldn't work on his wrist or ankle & I didn't know what to do. Someone then suggested that I incorporate it in his shoelace. It took a little doing, but that is where it has been ever since & he doesn't even know it's there.
Sometimes we have to be creative with this. I told my DH that as long as he wears this on his ankle,he will always know where I AM !! He thought that was a fine idea since he likes to know where I am all the time.
I have a double keyed deadbolt and as long as everyone locks the door when they leave, it works fine. I'll have to call our sheriff's dept and see if this is available here.
Linda, every door in our house is double locked, but there's always someone who forgets to lock a door (usually the one to the garage) so anything can happen. Also it provides extra protection should he get away from me or the aide when we're out-I know there is a great chance he will be found. Also it will work if you travel out of state if the local sheriff's dept has the program. I was advised to call ahead before we travel to see if the town has the program. Peace of mind when traveling.
