Well, he is not incontinent, but maybe getting there. Especially in the night, my guy just misses the toilet. The floor is a mess, along with the carpet by the bedroom. Such a chore to clean on a daily basis. I have a raised toilet seat with hand rails, but he insists or maybe as a habit, has to stand to pee. Obviously, his aim is now off, and it is a cleaning experience every morning, and during the day. I have tried to explain this to him, but then an entire new dilemma happens. He becomes so mixed up in trying to please me, he gets confused on just what or where the toilet is, and the whole bathroom thing is a new trial. An honest dilemma! So I try to take him in to “sit him” on the seat, which is OK for that specific effort, or just leave him alone, which is a repeat of missing the toilet. No, practice does not make perfect. Of course, memory is not an option. I am at such a loss. Even if I put depends or something on him at night, he would still pull them down and try for the pot. Got no ideas at this point. Any ideas?

I know some people here have used puppy pads around the toilet to catch the urine or even old towels that you can bleach if they get wet. Others will come along who have more experience with this than I do.

Thanks deb112958 for your comments. I am thinking that is all I can do for now, during this stage. You are a sweetie for answering with an option for this solution. We have been practicing with "Sitting" for awhile, but it just isn't in the memory logue. Bummer.

I think the majority have done what deb suggested and you will find many threads with this topic. Not there and not looking forward to it since I live in an RV.

Never let it be said we don't know a LOT about this subject:

yes, I cut lengthwise those large pads, the ones with the blue outside. I think they are designed for beds , but they slip around too much. I line it up against the toilet, and then scotch tape the edges. I change it every morning, it is great no washing , and I get 2 pieces out of one.

I was suspect that it was the toilet leaking, until I laid those pads down. Yup, it was him.

Another possibility is to make sure the wall behind the toilet is a contrasting color, so it is easier to see the toilet. My husband was making enough of a mess that I paneled the wall with the kind of laminate material used for cheap countertops (like formica) which is available at stores like Lowes in 4x8 sheets, to make it easier to clean.

I also used those pads around the toilet like Coco suggested. However, I had a roll of the blue tape that is used for painting and it worked better then the scotch tape and it is much easier to put down and take off. Probably cheaper too.

As difficult as it is, may I suggest it might be best if one could some how begin training your dh to use a
urinal or the potty in a comode (sp). I say this because the only major problem I had with my dh when
he was basically bed ridden before he passed away was when he had to pee. He was NOT incontinent and
he just got very, very upset when he was forced to pee in his diapers. This would set off an agitation problem
that could only be controlled with medication. As weak as he was he would throw his legs over the
rails on his hospital bed and do his best to get up so he could pee some place...any place besides his diapers.

I am having the same problem with the mess around the toilet. I have to clean it every time he uses it. He is in depends at night. He puts them on backwards every night and I check and make him turn them around. There is still a mess every morning. I am not sure when this happens, because I sleep in a different bedroom and use a different bathroom. I could no longer take the snoring, teeth clicking and pushing me out the the bed. I also think this eyesight is not so good, or he pees in the dark. I will try the pads near the toilet.

I too have the problem with the pee around the toilet. I blot it up with paper towels then use Clorox wipes and more paper towels. The blue pads sound like a good idea but I worry about them slipping. The tape really keeps them from moving?

He says the "water" gets on the floor because the toilet leaks. Then he gets mad when he sees me wiping it up.

Oh, I also solved the problem with the carpet after he totally stained it and then fell and and made big blood stains to compliment the pee stains.

Luckily there was hardwood flooring under the carpet, so I pulled it all up. (by myself) Now I just wash the few feet between the bed and the bathroom door with "Swiffer" wet pads for hardwood. Floor looks great and the work is minimal.

if the urine gets on the underside of the pads where the plastic side is it becomes very slippery. i have slipped on them more than once myself. so make sure you tape it down like coco says.
