While at an AD Day Care facility today checking out what I may be able to do for my husband, something was mentioned about spend down. An example given was to purchase dental insurance, optical, medical etc which somehow does something with money not being counted I guess. Where can I find information on this? or a related topic?

They are referring to the amount you need to spend down, as in dollars, assets, etc. before you can qualify for Medicaid. Hopefully Jane will come along & fill you in better than I can.

Jane knows just about everything there is to know about Medicaid. However, her speciality is long term care, so I don't know if she will be able to help you with this one. But she does know about the spend down process. Have patience, someone will be along shortly.

    Rae Ann,

I wish I could be of more help to you, but I had nothing to spend down so I didn't have to research this.

I did a quick google search and here are a few links that may be of help

Rae Ann, with no more information than I have it is hard to help with this. It does not sound like you are speaking of long term care help just regular Medicaid help. I sounds as though the group is telling you to look into applying for Medicaid. Be careful, it is different for community than long term care. I don't know much at all about the rules when you live in the community and receive Medicaid.

If I can help in any other way I will be glad to.
