Yes, it has just completed a small Phase II in Russia and the results looked good. They are now recruiting for Phase III in the U.S. There will be two trials. For one, the patient can NOT be on any prescription AD drugs. For the other, the patient MUST be on aricept.
Dimebon was in the news tonight. I was in the kitchen and didn't hear all of it but did hear that it was expected to get FDA approved. Are we close to having a better drug to treat AD?
I know it was discussed (and dismissed!!!!!) at the International Conference on Alzheimer's in Chicago last summer. Our Neurologist wa on a major panel - and she said it was nonsense...She further said the doctor that was promoting it was one of the owners of the pharmacedical company that was making the drug. oops!
She said his presentation did not make one iota of sense to the panels and his studies were basically invalid.
There are several trials recruiting or getting ready to recruit that will allow the patient to be on aricept (donepezil).
They don't have all the study locations listed yet for some of these trials. I've been told dimebon will be tested in at least two places in San Diego, and neither one is showing yet, so if you don't find a location near you, keep checking back.
I've found a trial going on in Winston-Salem and I think DH has a good chance of getting into this one. It seems to be the most promising drug so far from what I've read, so I'm very excited.
