I invite you to log onto the home page - www.thealzheimerspouse.com - and read today's blog. Think about what someone can do for you that will make a difference and ask for the help.
I had some unexpected help this weekend. Our grandson came by after work and trimmed dead branches in our cottonwood trees which DH can no longer do and then accompanied us to a wedding on Sat. What a joy! He is off to college in a week but sure is a great help until he goes.
Last week my wonderful BIL was here and he washed and waxed both our cars....He took DH out for lunch, to the barber shop too.... What so many of these social workers don't get is that we the caregivers sometimes get respite at home with the relief coming from someone else taking the LO out to appointments ( when we are not really needed as in a doctor appt) or to get the hair cut, just to get them OUT for a bit so we could actually see something get fully finished that we started months ago...That is what I need, relief from interruptions, the constant interruptions!
A little does help a lot! Our mower who does our lawn changed the outside security light bulb for me yesterday - I have to use a ladder if I do it. Then he told me he and his wife were coming over to trim all my hedges. I have a zillion hedges around my house/yard and I've been doing it. But the last few weeks it's been so hot, I just could not do it and they are really looking shabby! There are some good people out there!
Tonight two friends from our Sunday School class brought prepared meals to us including my fav coconut cream pie!. I had carpal tunnel surgery last week which wasn't that much and I can use my hand since that enormous bandage came off so I wasn't even thinking of someone bringing in food. It is enough for a week's meals for dh and me as we aren't big eaters any longer. This was such a load taken off though just to know there is food ready to put in the oven. I am going to ask our son to take his dad out next week just so I can stay home and maybe even take a nap. I am so weary and dh is in the stage of being my shadow and sleeping in 2 hr. shifts at night.
My neighbor just came over to take a bifold door that covers my air handler in the hall. He is going to remove every other louver so the a/c won't have so much drag. He is going to paint where the slats are removed, paint the area around the filter. He is also going to remove the metal door over the filter, sand clean it and paint it for me. What a neighbor!!
