Last night I went to see DH and was sorry I went. The nurse brought him out in the chair they use and he was leaning over to his right, eyes closed. I know he had no idea I was there. He just couldn't seem to open his eyes and probably didn't want to. So again I went and got a nurse to take him back to his room. She comes over and starts "Open your eyes" on and on. I finally told her to just stop and take him back to his room. No wonder he gets angry if they heckle him like that all the time. She was getting on my nerves. I don't know if I want to go back again. I thought Sunday was bad but this is worse. Why does God let people go through this torment and live like that?

Jean, do you think they may have him over medicated? This happened to my Dad. We thought he was about gone but found he was given medication to knock him out. When the medication was discontinued, he really perked up.

i agree with dazed jean. maybe ask if the dr has added or change doses of medications. if hes constantly non responsive if could well be the meds.
many of us have seen this happen and they perk up after modifying doses.
    just an idea.

Jean21. your recent posts have mentioned how violent your DH had become. I would think that it is safe to assume that they have him totally zonked out for staff's and other resident's protection. I would inquire if/when they will dial back the meds to try to allow DH some sort of situational awareness

DH is in a Geripsych facility where they are supposed to be adjusting his meds. His therapist calls every other day about 4.30, today was one of them. I told her about the nurse going on and on and that she was even getting on my nerves. They have changed some of the meds but I don't know how long they keep track for them to know if the new meds or different dosage is working. The therapist said she would call again tomorrow so I'll see what is what then.

divvi, yesterday I got the list of all the meds DH is on. I will wait until I speak with his therapist tomorrow.

marty, one reason I was so angry was when I spoke with his nurse yesterday afternoon she said DH had been combative in the morning but he was okay now. I even asked if I should go to see him and she said he was fine. NOT!

This is supposed to be the best of the best for helping people. Not just with dementia problems but all mental problems and or drug addiction. Apparently the normal stay is 10 to 14 days so I will resrve judgement until the 14 days are up.
