Our yard guys, who used to be really pro active have turned into the mow blow and go guys now. I still have kept them on cuz at least I have a yard of nicely groomed crabgrass ( or maybe it is barnyard grass as the guy at the nursery called it).
I went out to look over this nicely groomed "lawn" and found a spot where I thought...look at this clump..in kind of a shady spot. So I decided to pull at this stuff and see what happens. Well what happens with this type of whatever it is weed, it winds around the blades of grass until it cokes it out and then it drys out itself but not before it reseeds itself. Interestingly, this weed comes out very easily compared to real crabgrass but it does the same damage. After I finished I had a nice patch of rich dirt and a few blades of my real ST Augustine grass. Hummmm ,I said to myself, I wonder if now my blades of grass will have a chance to grow? Then I turned my attention to a spot I weeded out last year...well now, this is not a hopeful sign! Here I weeded this out, treated it with some stuff that seemed to kill the weed and guess what is back!!!!!! It was all dryed up and pulled out with ease but there was not a real blade of grass to be seen, not in that spot.
So it is with the crabgrass called Alzheimser's Disease ( or any of the other forms of dementia). The tangles of plaque and goop just winds it's ugly way around the brain cells slowly but surely. WE give the weed killer be it Exelon and Namenda or any of the other memory temporary preservatives only to have the" crabgrass" steal in and grab some more soi ( brain matter)l...
The only way to get a nice new green lawn free of crabgrass is a lawn transplant...we can't do that for our LOs...
Yep, Alzheimer's is the crabgrass of the brain! And it wins in the end!

Well said Mimi! I have that grass here too, and it also has Alzheimers!

Yeah but the only bad thing about this grass is it "forgets" to stop growing!
