Had to call the squad Thursday for Lloyd. He had a seizure at 7, seemed fully recovered just to have another at 11. He has never had one so late in the morning. Grandson Alex persisted until I let him call 911 for an ambulance. Totally different from his last ER visit/hospitalization/nightmare in 2011. I was in control from the get-go. I asked what they intended to give him and they said usually Versed. I told them I had POA and his DNR and he would not be getting Versed or anything else w/o my approval. No resuscitation...no chest compressions...nothing. He got 2mg Ativan in the squad and 2 more in the ER. I went with him in the squad and stayed in the ER. We may have had to carry him home and he may have peed his pants a few times, but he did not go into respiratory arrest and have to be hospitalized for a week and he was pretty much back to "normal" in no time.
How I wish the statute had not expired for the April 2011 hospital visit. Such a stark contrast between things done their way and things done my way!!! Who'd have thunk!?!?

You just gotta be firm, as you know *wink* I am glad to hear this visit was much better than the last. I caught up about this in our FB group, but haven't been there in a few days... how is Lloyd holding up?

The grandsons carried him home and put him on the couch. He was up and around in no time. He had a few accidents, but is pretty much back to normal. After that April 2011 visit, I swore I would NEVER lose control of the situation again. I talked to a lawyer, but never pursued it. After this visit, I realize how dreadfully wrong everything went back then...and I do mean everything!
The ER doctors prescribed Diastat suppositories and Keppra 250mg. I took him to the PCP the next day and he ok'd the Diastat, but prescribed liquid Keppra and wants to start him out at 100mg and work our way up if necessary.

Yes, Linda, I think you sharing the ER experience you had last year taught us all something. I know that now I would never let them take my DH back without me there. Thanks to you!

Well, girls, Diastat is not covered and cost is over $400 for 10 suppositories. I called the insurance company and they don't have anything comparable that they will cover. The crap I have to go through with his prescription plan (that we pay for) really pisses me off!

Linda: Maybe if you call the mfg. of Diastat they will lower the price for you. I have heard other people
having the price of some of the expensive drugs lowered. They probably give samples to doctors and maybe your doctor could get samples for you.

    Linda:

Go on www.diastat.com and see about a coupon. Every little bit helps. I find that coupons are available for a lot of medications.
