Searched for Teepa Snow on this blog, but didn't come up with info. I've just been introduced to Teepa Snow and her "ministry" to life and service in the dementia field. www.teepasnow.com Since she's so well known, perhaps I'm just a late comer, but if you haven't read or seen some of her material, it might be helpful on your journey.
Thank you so much, Zibby. I clicked on News and Events on her web page and watched the video about an AD person's eye sight. Now I understand why DH does some of the things he does or asks questions about things he sees. I would love to hear one of her lectures or attend a training session. I agree with bluedaze, she is one incredible lady. Maybe Joan could put this link on the home page.
I'm on may way out the door to take Sid for his neuropsych testing - will be gone all day. She definitely looks very interesting - will thoroughly read her website, then contact her, but not until tomorrow. Thanks Zibby for finding her. I had never heard of her either.
Zibby, Thank you for sharing the link. Her video about vision was eye opening (pardon the pun). She looks to be a very dynamic and experienced presenter. I'm going to register to see her in October when she is in the D.C. area.
After seeing the vision video, it hit me: maybe that's why hb gave up wearing his glasses! I'd clean them, put them on him, and I'd find them lying one place or another not on his face. When he was in the memory unit of the care center, he never wore them. Staff said he wouldn't keep them on. Think I'll point the staff training woman to Teepa also.
I went to an all day in-service she gave. It was excellent. She took care of her mother-in-law and I think another family member, so she has hands on experience, but not with a spouse.
Joan--I was thinking that I learned about her from this website--but I guess not. Remember the radio show you were on years ago--who was that interviewer? Just checked the homepage and saw it was Teena Cahill...Teena is close to Teepa!
Zibby--The glasses thing wasn't just your husband--it is similar in all advanced AD patients. Same thing with false teeth. For some reason, they can't tolerate any manmade "devices" and will remove them.
I looked her up and found that her real name was Teena, but her little brother or someone kept saying Teepa and it stuck. She lives in N.C. north of Raleigh.
Attended a Caregivers Conference in Lafayette, IN yesterday to hear Teepa. Wonderful presentation and many vendors. Even though I'm not a "direct" caregiver, I try to keep informed as I help with the support group my hb and I were with. She's outstanding, I think.
Teepa Snow did a series of videos on dementia for Senior Helpers ( an in-home non-medical caregiver group). Our local hospital has a "Senior Circle" program where they present all sorts of speakers. For the last 5 months they have had someone from Senior helpers come and present one of Teepa's videos. The first 2 were designed for families and then because of the interest they are showing the ones designed as training videos for their caretakers. I've learned a lot from them. One explained why DH often reaches to the middle of the table to take something from the serving dish instead of eating the same thing from his plate. She does a great job with the presentation!
