Yesterday I attended a public hearing on a State plan for dealing with Alzheimer's Disease. It was compiled by people from both the State Department of Human Services and our local chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, plus various interested people. The entire document runs to 55 pages. It is basically well thought out At the public hearing there were only 2 caregivers. In addition to me there was another man whose wife is in the late stages of FTD. I know both of them since she attends the same Adult Day Care as my wife. One woman at the hearing is, herself, in the early stages of Alzheimer's. The rest of those attending were employees of the Day Care Center and a couple of nursing homes that specialize in AD. I felt the hearing went well, with very good and well thought out suggestions. The moderator brought her 11 year old son to the hearing. He asked what would happen if the caregiver developed Alzheimers or other problem. Pretty good thinking for 11.
