This morning I went to see DH after placing him a week ago. I was nervous because I wasn't sure what kind of reception I would get. I thought he might be angry with me but he was happy to see me. He is confused about some things, asking about his mother and sister or his mother and me. His mother died in 1973 and his sister is in a Alzheimer's facility in Ohio. Then he was saying they were going to take some sign down, turns out he is talking about his name plate on his door.
There were a few other things but nothing major and he didn't ask to come home which is what I was afraid of. On some level he thinks he is there to have his meds adjusted because that's what I told him when I took him there. I hope he will forgt that soon or he just might get angry!!! All in all it wasn't a bad visit. Thank you Lord.

    Jean,

I am glad for you that it went well. In most cases, I hear the same thing - that they adjust better and more quickly than we could imagine. I think we're the ones who have more problems adjusting.

I am so happy to hear this first visit went well. Now, maybe you can relax more and have a little peace for yourself.

Great news, Jean 21. I found my DW adjusted well too but still, 15 mos. later, will want to leave every now and then. I also found my adjusting to living alone was more difficult than I could have imagined.

Great news Jean 21...I pray that he keeps on being happy there....gives me some little hope that my Dh might adjust that well too, when the time comes.

I have looked at three NH's in the past week..one just stood out, nicer, more than the other two... had all I would wish for Dh in a NH.
One was very smelly, 48 secure beds, the staff looked run off their feet, perhaps under-staffed.
One had 10 ladies, one of them would have to leave before Dh could have a bed, very small area, no activities...I really can't see him their with 9 ladies doing nothing all day..
Whatever i choose I hope my DH adjusts as well as your DH...

Thanks everyone for your support. I guess I was more nervous than I originally thought, I felt quite a bit better yesterday! The one thing that bothers me is the thought that he won't come home ever again, that is really hard to take.

Jean-I know the feeling. Hope it goes better this time.

I don't know about this placing your LO. In the past week my computer has been acting up and according to the "techie" it is something in the computer so I will probably have to get a new one sooner or later. Wednesday afternoon the A/C wasn't cooling anything. Called the company we have a contract with and the guy was here for two and a half hours but couldn't find the leak so another guy came about 8.15 Thursday morning and was here until after 2.30. He found the leak and replaced the hose but it took all that time. These things didn't happen when DH was home :-O
