Couldn't find a thread on this but Joan posted on the main page that she is really sick. How hard it must be trying to take care of Sid and your father when you're sick. We miss you and hope you're getting better.
  2.

So sorry to hear you're down, Joan, I hope it's nothing serious. Is there any way that you can get any rest, or is this just a silly question? I'll sure be praying for you.

Please take care of Joan. My thanks always for this place that you began. Prayers go up for you to feel better soon.

So very sorry, Joan. Hope you will get better quickly. Thanks for all you do - for us - for Sid and your Dad.

I got up this morning and saw this thread. Thank you, Dazed, for starting it, and thanks to all who responded. I am convinced that every few months, my body simply says - ENOUGH - IF YOU WON'T STOP, I WILL STOP YOU!! And I get sick, and I have no choice but to get into bed and not come out until I feel better. A very strong antibiotic taken round the clock finally kicked in, and I was able to get up this morning.

While I was in bed over the weekend, Sid hobbled around, asking me a million questions about how I felt and how he should warm up his food, but overall, I did get a lot of needed rest.

I did my Alzheimer Buddies Dominoes car pool job this morning. Someone else is picking up, so I can rest the rest of the day. We're going down like dominoes (no pun intended). One of the wives has been out of commission for 2 months with a knee replacement and broken hip; another is going in for cancer surgery; and I am sick. Think this 24/7 caregiving gig is a bit much?

    Thanks again everyone.

Joan, I don't know how you take care of Sid AND your Dad even on the best days, but trying to do it when you are sick is the pits. Glad you are feeling better.

Joan, Are you sure your aren't on speaking terms with the Energizer Bunny? You seems to keep going and going no matter what. I do hope you are feeling much better and will be 100% soon.

Oh boy, bluedaze. I would love to have a home health visit from you! I've been here 4 years now and have gotten so much good advice from you. The thing that sticks in my mind the most, though, is that shaving cream will clean poop off their butts. I haven't needed this yet but you better believe I'll remember it when the time comes. LOL

Dazed-I didn't realize how long we have been on this road together. I am sometimes amazed at how much we have come to care about each other. Now that my struggle is over I want to cry for those of you still in agony.

Exactly - after ten years, my body said ENOUGH, it was either him, me or the both of us. I always tell CG's that you and your health are as important as your LO. But I know from experience, taking care of yourself is far down the list. And, Joan, you have three times the travail than most. You're only one person, one human being. Now that you're up and around, don't overdo. Listen--don't overdo!

Well, my sister yelled at me via e-mail yesterday, and told me that there was nothing that couldn't wait. I was to go to the beach after I dropped Sid off at DC, and I was to give her no arguments, because she could slap down every one of them. So I dropped Sid off at DC and went back to the dock on the beach. Just for an hour or so - sat in the sun and breeze and relaxed a bit. Now I'm going to get my nails done. There is laundry, shopping, web work, knitting work, household paperwork, Daddy visiting, and clutter clean up to do, but I guess I'll just leave it all for now. I am very run down, extremely depressed, still a bit sick, and I guess I need a big break. Which is coming in the form of a visit from my sister and brother-in-law in 27 days.

Joan how I hope and pray the visit gives you some relief, that they HELP you.

I am so sorry you are depressed dear sweet one. It has been a tough week in our little world. Lots of spouse really going downhill this past couple of weeks, including mine.

Make sure to take some vitamins maybe drink a couple of those fizzy ones ok?

    Dear Joan
You are and have for a long long time doing and being everything for many whom you love. Yes caregiving is truly an act of love, but if you don't put yourself a the top of the caregiving list and take better care of yourself you my dear friend will end up totally uncared for because the ones you are caring for cannot offer you any assistance. You are the most important person in their life and as long as they exist you will be, but only if you are there and in a somewhat healthy condition. God bless you for all you do for so many. Get well soon and take care.

Joan, I am glad to hear you are feeling better and that you made sure to take a little "me time" today. Very glad your sister will be coming to give you a break, sure sounds like you could use one, or four ((hugs))
