My lo was sent from the Unit to adjust her medications to the hospital with what her family thought were reactions to the Zyprexa and other meds they had been trying for a week (on a differnt thread this evening). She has a fever, is dehydrated and since it's her neck involved they are thinking meningitis, are admitting her and want to do a spinal tap. The spinal tap was the worst thing that ever happened to her at the beginning of this disease and I promised I would never put her through that again. What are your thoughts? This has been so difficult. Can't they just treat her as if it is w/o doing the spinal tap?

So sorry your DW is having so much trouble, the poor dear!

From a quick google search http://www.emedicinehealth.com/meningitis_in_adults/page5_em.htm

"Spinal tap: A spinal tap, or lumbar puncture, is necessary to diagnose meningitis. The results of the spinal tap are essential to help the doctor determine both the presence and then the type of meningitis. Correctly diagnosing meningitis is absolutely essential to guide treatment decisions. If you are too sick for a spinal tap, you will be treated with antibiotics on the assumption that you have meningitis. The spinal tap will be done when your condition improves"
