You might have read my post on the daycare thread & since I wrote that I have been thinking about this Companion Care program offered in our area. Then I was very thankful that my friend went to our county’s Office On Aging and asked the director what other options I had since my DH wouldn’t go to the daycare. The director gave my friend a booklet titled “St Mary’s County Resource Guide For Older Adults”. I know that I received that booklet last year at the Caregivers Conference that I went to, but to be perfectly honest I ‘m sure that I didn’t look at it very thoroughly. I was just looking at the table of contents & they have an Elder Law Attorney section & when I turned to the page it stated that she offers FREE monthly workshops. Who knew? My point in all this rambling is that if my little county offers services like this maybe yours does too. I know that Joan has many good resources linked on the home page, but I think it bears repeating to look at what your county has to offer. Don’t wait for a friend to do it for you. (God Bless My Friend!)

Elaine -good to hear-there may be HELP for us all if we look hard enough. So glad things are looking up in your county.I am thankful each day for all the help our little county in WV is to me and Paul.

Perhaps I need to physically go to our Area Office on Aging...everytime I call I am told we don't qualify for services because we are too young, make too much money, etc. Our local ALZ Asso has not been much help either. I find it very frustrating as I am desperate to fnd some services that I don't have to pay an arm and a leg for and that are local so I'm not driving miles to find.

LFL, that is probably a good idea. My friend actually talked to the director & she was very nice & helpful. In my case I’m sure that I heard about some of the programs they offer, but it just didn’t sink in that I might be able to take advantage of them. Sometimes it nice to have a real person explain things to you. It would also be nice if they could direct you to an agency that could help you if they can’t help you because of being too young. Good luck.
