As we have done every year for at least the last 26, Sid and I watched every single minute of the Westminster Dog Show both nights. It is the first time in forever that he stayed awake all evening while the TV was on. (I wrote a blog last year about our love of that show -
    http://www.thealzheimerspouse.com/DogshowandAD.htm)

Anyway, he was attentive, alert, and even chatty about every dog and its attributes. And we are both absolutely furious over the outcome. My deepest apologies to Pekingese lovers, but give me a break! The German Shepherd, Doberman, Irish Setter, and Dalmation were magnificent canine specimens. The judge looked like she was in competition with Joan Rivers for the amount of face lifts she's had. They must have affected her eyesight. The Pekingnese??????????????

This subject is frivolous and irrelevant, but I figure that my life is so full of seriousness, I can enjoy a little irrelevance once in a while. The Pekingese????????????????

And yes, I know that they are judged against the breed standard, not each other, but I can't imagine better breed standards than that Doberman, Shepherd, Irish Setter, or Dalmation.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

We are westminster freaks too-every year we watch with great excitment and anticipation. Of course our breeds-Rotweiller and Boston Terrier-never get best in class much less win but we are eternally hopeful. I know, I know, the peke won over 100 best in shows last year, but haven't we had enough of peke's lately? Really??? Really??? Of course he's now"retired" to entertain the ladies. Here's hopin next years winner is NOT a peke. Perhaps a "real" dog. No offense to pekinese lovers.

LFL...another Boston Terrier fan? I'm always so disappointed they don't win best in class. BTW, we call our current BT Ozzy, a Boston Terrorist!

BIG boston terrior fan. Our little boy is Reilly and yes, he's a true Boston Terrorist. That's even what our long time vet calls him...she says he'll be this way until his last breath. Our ltiile guy is getting old-10 this year but is still a terrorist. When I take him into the vet, the staff sighs.....
  4.
Is a Boston Terror the same as a Boston Bull?
  5.
Big fan as well. We got our first over 25 years ago, and hve loved them every since. Ozzy is 12, but in pretty good shape. I said no more dogs, but I know I'll get another!

bluedaze, yes when I was a kid and had our first Boston, they were referred to as Boston Bull Terriers. Somewhere along the way they dropped the"bull" so now they're just Boston Terriers.

Diane, I said no more dogs too, but I know I will get another one but maybe after DH is in a facility or has passed. We've always had a dog and I cannot imagine life without one. I still want another BT but I doubt I can handle a wild dog alone so I'm thinking a french bulldog with the same markings as a BT. But you never know. Reilly's pretty healthy-lost an eye in a freak accident a few years back but is going strong. He's my bed buddy....snoring and all. Actually not to different than sharing my bed with DH, but is definitely hotter.

I must put my 2 cents in here for the Golden Retriever. They NEVER win, but I have had two of them, and they are simply the best, sweetest, most loving dogs. They are also playful and funny. And smart.

Joang, I vote for the Golden Retriever also!!!! My Twisty was the best dog we've ever had.

I vote for the DOBE.This dobe I have now is my fifth and they are such intelligent dogs.My DH asked me if that was a monkey when they showed the Peke on the Today show. It was an ugly dog but I'm sure it's owner loved it. Imagine all that grooming it required.Hopefully,I will never be without a dog.Don't all dogs go to heaven?I'm trying to get there also.
  7.
Yes, all dogs go to heaven - even the Peke!

I love Goldens, Shelties, and all around general mutts. But we have cats...and ex husbands can go to heaven only if they REPENT for whatever they did or didn't do that they should have.
