My dh in the last week or two doesn't seem to be hearing me. I was wondering if this was part of ALZ. Yes, it is and it is the brain stem cell that is affected by the ALZ. and brain stem cell also affects the visual senses. I was reading a good article on this on a site called: LIVINGSTRONG.COM. This site also has other
Alz. conditions and tells which part of the brain causes the decline in certain areas

There are great comments in the discussion section on this blog on a Hearing thread and the last post was submitted in 2010. I don't know how to pull it down, but I think it would be something others might like to read especially the newer people.

DH is the same way. I have to make sure he is looking at me and I'm close enough to him, to tell him something or ask him something..otherwise, all I get is "what".

It is just the "Brain Stem"...I got carried away in my post when I typed
    "Brain Stem Cell".

My dh has gone down hill the last couple of weeks. His night time jerking has gotten really bad and his neuro has put him on new medication. He has been sleeping almost 20 hours a day instead of the 16 to 18. And he looks ill...this
is the first time he really looks like an ill person. Guess maybe it could be do to the new medication. Who knows.

the brain is the control panel for everything so it makes sense hearing, vision, touch, all the things involved would be affected sooner or later. hearing has always been a factor here too.

And they always say that when you die, the hearing is always the last sense to go. . . .
Something else that may not be true for AD . . . whatta horriable disease.
