I thought it was odd that I did not get the comfort kit when We signed with Hospice. I asked the Nurse about it and she brought me some Morpine to have on hand just in case. I noticed the pharmacy bag was not sealed and that bottle of morphine also did not have seal on it. I assumed the seal was underneath the lid. The Hospice Nurse on several occasions would visit DW and the Pharmacy truck would make a delivery while the Nurse was here. She told me that she was saving time by meeting the Driver here and that the meds were for another patient. I now know that she ordering the Morphine for my wife and then take them for herself. On Monday the Driver beat the Nurse to our house and I was given a new script of Morphine for my wife. The Nurse shows up later and after seeing DW she sits outside in her car, waiting for the Delivery. At 7:00 pm she knocks at my door asking if I got another Delivery, it is a screw up she claims and needs to return it to the pharmacy. I check with the pharmacy the next day and she never returned it.

Criminal Investigation under way. The bottle she first gave me, that was not sealed. Looks and taste like water. I am told it should be very bitter.

Wow, moorsb sounds like you had an addict in your home. If she isn't using herself she may be selling it. You should really check if your wife had valuable jewelry or the like. I have worked with addicts and if they are desperate they will steal from anyone and steal anything worth selling. So sorry this happened to you. That is one reason I worry about having strange people come into house.

omg. thats pathetic. the POOR DEAR souls who were needing the morphine were getting water? endangerment to elderly, theft, loss of licensing, jail time and who ever else the ring of theifs involved. just horrible. the worse is the poor patients who probably went without pain meds in end of life stages. oh dear. i hope they get maximum sentences. this does sound like something that could happen easily so people check that ALL your meds are sealed before using. especially narcotics. hospice usually delivers a comfort pack for the patient for when they need it. and yes it contains these important potent meds.

I would call the HEAD of your Hospice group and TELL her she needs to come to your house, and make it clear she should not come along with the RN. I have never heard of anything so horrible.. and I trust you will follow through on this. If she is doing it with your wife's prescriptions, she's probably doing it with all of the others. When My DH passed away, you should have seen the RN disposing of all of those drugs in kitty litter she carried in little ziplock bags. All of the narcotics were poured into the bag where they were absorbed. She probably pockets them when that time comes.

We will be waiting to hear what happens next. Do not slow down on this pursuit.. you're doing it for everyone she has on her book.

Moosb.....I think that hospice nurse will qualify for hospice when I get done with her.....I just swapped her morphine for 25cc's of gatoraid laced with viagra, and cannot wait till she uses the next dose....Hide Moorsb, Hide!!
I am appalled at her behavior...imagine giving your dw a dose of water, expecting it to help her....
I hope she gets jail time and serves time with convicted women beaters///

I am finding out that if all she did was steal the drugs for her own addiction, she will be put on probation and offered rehab treatment, no big deal. If she tampered with the drug, it is a class 2 felony upto 20 yrs. Last night it occured to me that now that the pharmacy knew there was a problem, that they were going to recall all of the morphine for her patients and problably destroy it. I could not get a response for the local Barney Phife to stop them from doing that. So I called the Texas Rangers and they were all over this. I get a call the next day from Barney Phife and I tell him there is no need for him to pursue the case anymore. He got upset that I called in the Texas Rangers, he lost the collar.

Wow! What an eye opener! I never even thought about that possibility. I always think of Hospice folks as Angels of Mercy and would probably never suspect a thing. I do not currently have any need of Hospice, but, obviously will some day and now I'll have to keep an eye on them, too. Very sad that there are vultures everywhere just waiting to pick the bones of the defenseless - very sad, indeed.

Can't trust anyone these days, can we? Disgusting.

My sister was legal guardian for an elderly neighbor and thought her caregiver was stealing her pain medication. The neighbor couldn't really talk anymore. Judy made a point of shaking out all the pills one day and counting them in front of this person. Wasn't long until that person was gone and replaced with someone my sister knew. When one cannot afford to pay for a nurse, you can end up with a caregiver who is in the business for all the wrong reasons. I guess we all have to trust that our instincts will preserve us!

One way this was managed for my parents was that we had security boxes that locked.. The RN came out and put out the meds for the week in the med boxes each had..All the script bottles were locked up and in a safe with a combination. We had the combination and the nusrse had it but none of the CNAs or other caregivers..it worked pretty well....after we found other drugs were taken...
Then there were the towels and the jewelry and my mom's mink hat, and I found evidence that all her fine dresses ( they were knit and all stretched out by the fat caregivers that were assigned and I mean the dresses were ruined.) and even a king size bedspread was found in the garage just ready for one of the caregivers and their friends one night to come over and make a big haul of just what I am not sure...but when you see that you know a more professional type robbery is in the making...that is what they do...take the goodies and put them in a big bedspread and then take it out like a Santa sack..
I have a social worker coming soon and I just know she is going to suggest a caregiver or somekind of "help" and I am not sure I want anyone in my house. I trust no one.....
