As I read the rules if LO cannot perform 2 of six, eating, toilet, dressing, bathing, moving from place to place ect an Dr signs statement that patient hasn't been able to perform these simple functions for 90 days then fees are deductable, anyone know for sure or have personal knowledge? This would be a very big deduction considering most ALF charge from $3-6 thousand a month

Definitely ask your accountant. At our facility, both the Independent Villa residents and the ALF residents receive a yearly letter from the corporate owners as to what percentage of the rent is deductible. It is divided into board, food, medical, etc. Not sure if all facilities do that.

We were told last year that we could deduct 100% of the costs of the Alzheimers ALF and so we did.

PrisR did ya have a statement from Dr about what LO could or could not do?

No, we just entered it with the medical deductions.

You know, I guess I did call the facility and ask when they were going to send the statement showing how much was deductible and they said they didn't send anything because it was ALL deductible. Also, DH's daughter, who was a CPA, does our taxes and checks everything out very carefully.

Was told by my DIL, a tax consultant, that all expenses above rent was tax deductible for my sister in ALF. she doesn't have az she does need assistance with bathing and they dispense all her meds.

I believe that an Alzheimers ALF is in a different category. When admitted they are already at the stage where much care is needed. Much different from the regular ALF.
