Today, my dh who asks me the same question over and over again and I have to find EVERYTHING for him, decided he was going to fix a floor lamp that had stopped working. Right? Well, since I was busy doing whatever it was that I was doing, I paid as little attention to him as I possibly could (in between finding things for him). Believe it or not, he's now using that light to read by. He did a lot of this kind of stuff in high school - in fact, I still have a little lamp that he made in wood shop in high school (it still works). He could always fix anything. But, not so much lately ... until today. I know he's real proud of himself and I'm real proud of him, as well. My motto always used to be - "real men can fix stuff", and he always could. Life's little miracles.
Must be in the air :) Sunday my cordless mouse for the computer stopped working. DH was able to get it working again. I was so happy. Funny how sometimes things just come back to them. Happy your DH was able to get the light working again.
Could I add to this -- we've been putting together an attachment for our lawn tractor. I've never been good at using tools and our son is better than me but still a bit awkward. Even though dh was not understanding the instructions very well, when we would get to the point of using the tools (socket wrench, etc.) he could take over and never miss a beat. I was so thankful for all of us. He was a master woodworker - has made quality furniture and was a qualified machinist and welder- so I guess deep in him it is still there. Just like mothert and blue it was a bright spot in my day.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your "sunshine" stories, as well. It's so amazing how the "real" person can emerge out of nowhere on certain occasions and give us all pause to remember "the old days". I was real happy to see this again. Although, a few hours later, the old guy was nowhere to be seen. Oh well, he will come again.
