visited LO tuesday an she couldn't get her head off her chest, aide told me she had UT infection an they were treating that, but had therapist working on trying to get her to raise head, she says her neck doesn't hurt but can't get her head up,director told me she's failing fast, has this happened to anyone else?God its so sad to see them wither away like this.
My dh gradually went to head to chest over a year. He could get his head up a bit - but not leave it up. I called it "head drop" and there are pictures of this you can google. Yes, it is sad. Therapists also worked with him - to no avail, for any length of time.
ol don, My husband has had this same condition for about 5 months now. He is currently in a NH...stage 7. He can still walk, but his head will NOT move from the down position. His Dr. said it is a side effect of the resperidal. Even when he lays down in his bed...it is next to impossible to get his head back on the pillow. I bought a half-moon shaped pillow...helps some. The PT had no luck with his neck. So, on top of everything else...now he only gets to look at grey floor tiles all day...and I have to get on my knees to look up and see his sweet face.
My sil has had this head condition for about 3 yrs. Lost her ability to walk long before.
Would one of those foam neck collars that people wear after accidents help to hold the head up? I should think it would also help for normalcy of vision.
I am sorry ol don. This is such a difficult journey. I remember my mom's head used to fall forward but she had vascular dementia. Her wheelchair had a head rest and I used to put a pillow between her head and the head rest trying to at least make her head lie to the side. It worked sometimes as I recall.
indeed sad to see this but as we know in this disease we are not blessed with a good outcome -i would try the foam neck brace to see if it helps. but the neck may already be constricted and like the feet and hands its painful to move when it happens.
She says no pain, they tried collar right away,no help, with all the meds she takes I have to believe she's over medicated but I've been complaining about that for months, the dr there is very condescending when questioned about meds
I guess that is one benefit of home care, is that I give her the meds. I give her half the amount the Dr prescirbed and she is able to hold her head up and is more in the real world, instead of zoned out.
