DW is not able to stand very well or walk. I use a potty chair during the night and DW sleeps in Nursing Bed in the master bedroom. I am nearby in a 4 poster bed. I found that we could use one of the posters of the bed to help her steady herself. It was an impossible task to pull her pants down while holding her and then move the potty chair close so she would not miss it. Now she is able to reach one of the posters on the bed and stand up while I can manuvier everthing.
This has worked well enough that I have put a grab bar vertical on the wall in the living room near where she sits and watches TV all day. I can move her in a wheel chair close to the pull bar and she can pull herself up and stand, while I move the wheel chair out of the way and replace it with the potty chair.
this has really made things better and I wanted to pass this info on if anyone else is dealing with this issue.

moorsb, thank you for the information, my DH is just now having problems getting to the bathroom in time. I have a question though, the bar that is next to the chair in the living room where she watches TV, does it matter what side of the chair that it is on? I know that when I use the bathroom at walmart I need a bar but it needs to be on the left side because I am left handed.

The bar is not for you , but mounted so that they can use it to pull themself up from the chair. They grab and hold on it before using the potty. While they are standing and holding on, you pull their pants down and the position the chair behind them. The grab bar needs to be mounted vertically on a stud in the wall.
