I am thinking of the caregiver cruise. Has anyone been on one? My husband is now in an ALF. I'm a little worried about being out of reach, in the event I'm needed for an emergency. I don't have anyone here in FL. All our kids are in NY. Two of them would fly done in an emergency. I always feel on call and visit him everyday. Not easy letting go. I really could use a rest. I'm pretty stressed. I'm hanging by a thread right now. Any input from from my board mates?

I have been on two Caregiver cruises. I needed them too! I got to meet several of the spice here on them! You have to ask yourself is there anything that you would be able to do for him if you stayed at home if anything happened at the ALF? Has anything happened so far? If not, I say go for it. It is so hard to let go. I had anxiety the first two times I left my husband to go out of town, but it got easier. And I was better off for it. I am the preacher for respite! <grin>

Thanks Mary. He's only there for 2 months. I guess it's easier as time goes on. You are very helpful,

I believe a week on a caregiver cruise would be worth four weeks of rest at home or with a family member. You have so much fun, the seminars are interesting, and talking with others who "get it" helps so much... Patrick (Cruise Director) brought on people who also understand what you are going through so you have time for little sidebars ..or talks one on one. The diversions and sights and having someone wait on you hand and foot ... I could go on and on. Go for it... and do it soon. They fill up very quickly.
