    Julia,

I agree with Sandi*. Call the doctor right away. My husband couldn't take risperdal either. It made him more agitated. The doctor switched him to seroquel and that has worked well for him.
  1.
Thank you so much everyone....I'll ring the Dr. I thought this could not be the right thing for him. There's no way i could handle this for too long. I used to be able to leave him for a couple of hours, but not now. This extreme angry behaviour has come since the resperdal
    ( hugs )
  2.
Rang Dr and we are going to try Seroquel...we'll see how that goes. Does anyone's Lo's have or had any side effects from Seroquel
I'm a little frightened to start DH on it..I think it's the fear of the unknown, and what if anything to expect.
    thank you again.

Julia, Seroquel was the first med that we tried & he has been on it for almost a year with no side effects. But as others have said the meds affect each one differently so unfortunately it’s a chance you just have to take to see if it works. Good luck. Hugs to you!

Julia, my hb was on Seroquel for about 4 yrs with no adverse side effects. He was taken off it and put on Zyprexa only because it became ineffective--I guess after all that time, his body became used to it.
  4.
Thank you so much ElaineH and MarilynMD...so true, everyone's different, but that is so encouraging and gives me the confidence i needed to start him on it. He is halluncinating so much these days, I hope it helps for that too
  5.
I'm just adding that i still have not started Dh on Seroquel...it's amazing, but after taking DH off Resperdal, went to get the new meds and my chemist said to leave it a day or so before starting new meds. Well Dh as been so calm these last couple of days, still confused,hallucinating.. but softly spoken and calm.
So I thought I let it go for a while and see if this keeps up. I have the Seroquel ready if need be.
I would be very happy if he stays like this..I could handle this...we'll see if it lasts.

As I have been reading through these posts, I've seen no mention of the Exelon patch, which is what my husband is on. Anybody else on Exelon? What do you think of it?
  6.
My wife was on the Exelon Patch (or, rather, the Exelon Patch was on her). We stopped it about 1 year ago, after 3 years of the patch. I could not see any change after stopping, so it probably wasn't doing any good. She had no problem with side effects. With Aricept, a related drug, she had major stomach upset with vomiting and diarrhea.

Claude was on Exelon and Namenda. When the patch came out, the doctor switched him. Luckily, the doctor gave us some samples as the patch would not stay on his skin. The doc said some people's skin reacts to certain adhesives so went back to the pill.

He was on both Exelon and Namenda for about four years. He never had a reaction to either. When he declined to the point Hospice was called in, he was taken off both "cold turkey". We could really could see a difference in him for the worse. Supposedly, they only work for two years but in his case, they worked much longer. I really feel the two kept him cogniscent much longer than he would have done otherwise.
