My dh just drank a full cup of blue silk dye that I had in a container !! He refused to gag and throw up. Does anyone know anything about this? He is not sick as of yet, we live way out miles from any hospital, but I will call 911 if anything happens.
So just wondering if any of you would know!
I CAN"T believe he drank that!!!!!! Not only that, he was putting coffee mate in with it. Oh god...
Ok I told him if he did not stick his fingers down his throat and throw up, I was taking him to the hospital. I made him gag and gag, no food came up but lots of blue liquid, I hope he got most out.
Very upset, I am very upset. reality is really striking. and, I had the dye no where near the food area, but it was on the counter so my stinking fault.
Hi Coco. Sorry to hear of the blue drink. Careful about induced vomiting. I'm a healthy 59 and mistook my prednesone for an anxiety med as I was amidst some chaos. Long story short, I'd taken six anti-depressants. I was only worried that if I went out, my BJ would be completely lost. Drove to emergency, doctor cautioned me against doing what I did, that was finger down the throat. Nothing would come up. The doctor said you can hurt yourself by doing that. They can do many things in emergency to address the problem. My advise, go there if he gets worse. Better yet call on call DR. for advice.
I just got off the phone with Poison Control. As it was silk dye, and not Rit or regular clothes dye, they seem to think he will be ok. Silk dye is considered non toxic. I imagine he will have blue urine or feces later, wish I could laugh.
What I want to do is cry. I have been so UP lately, and I am ok, but this really hit home., yes , he has a really bad disease.
Thanks for your kind words. I am glad you joined the site here, it is nice to get to know all of these kind people.
Glad your DH is going to be alright. I did not know silk dye was non toxic..Thankfully he got it up. This is a warning to all of us that if our LO swallows some kind of pill or substance to call poison control before making someone gag it up. I swear if my H did this the first thing he would want to know is if he finally has blue eyes.. He always talks about blue eyes..
Coco, so sorry to hear this happened. It is very hard to have to deal with things like this with our dh. It is easier when it is a child but not a grown man that does not even have the understanding of a child. My heart goes out to you. It is not your fault, you had no clue he would do that. I hope things get easier,,,,,, try to relax and I am praying you will have a better day tomorrow.....
I do want to apologize if it seemed I was coming here for medical advice. I promise, if it would have been poison or something else scary, I would call 911.
Honestly I think I just wanted a bit of comfort...
My dh has brown Hawaiian eyes, sadly vacant now but still nice. I have green with brown spots, they are called coconut eyes by many. Others, say I must have been there when the #!% hit the fan.
I know you were not looking for medical advice. You were stunned by what your DH had done. Who would have thought it could have happened. Thank goodness all seems well. I was not on last night while this was going on and am glad you made it through the ordeal. You handled it very well. And I hope you are not to hard on yourself. You are doing the best you can and we ALL learn as we go with this.
coco, i can relate bigtime. i was fixing a cabinet door and had epoxy glue that has to be kneaded to react - well you guessed it. i went to the bathroom came back and DH was chewing something. i looked in mouth and the smell was overhwhelming. it was the epoxy putty. he ate it like a candy bar. omg. i was hysterical as well. called the manufacturers hotline and then the poison control. the worry was it would stick his insides. talk about panic. well long story short it was non toxic and he had some constipation :) but not much else thank goodness. it taught me a HUGE lesson. you cant leave them alone or without vigilance-they can get into so many things so quickly. i am glad to hear your experience turned out ok as well. we do have to remember these guys have no idea whats edible and not sometimes and the deadly stuff needs to be locked up. it could have well been bleach or some poison so the idea they can get into trouble is very real. divvi
Coco, I come here all the time for medical advice! My DH will not go to the neurologist anymore, so when his aggression got to the point where I knew that he needed something I came here & these wonderful people suggested Seroquel. We are here to help each other & if it is a medical issue we can get advice. We also come here for comfort too. Don’t ever hesitate to ask ANYTHING! We are here for you! ((HUGS)).
He seems to be ok this morning. As for me, well not much sleep oh well. We have to drive to Kona airport, (3 hours) to pick someone up....
Thanks again you guys really are a comfort. Having you in my life helps so much.
Check on you later, and yes, I guess now I will have to stash things. You know, NOW I can put my finger on why I do not want to leave him home alone. I used to, not anymore.
Have a nice day. I am working on what to bring for Thanksgiving..
Coco, clearly, he mistook the dye for coffee--glad it isn't harmful. Let this incident help you to see that you need to keep everything that is potentially dangerous out of his reach, as if he's a small child. I have heard of people with dementia drinking paint, cleaning liquids, etc. It's scary.
Coco, I'm glad to hear he is ok. Don't be too hard on yourself. My husband once ate some scented wax beads he thought was candy. Thank goodness they were non-toxic.
