I know that this has been focused on many times, but it seems that the information does not "stick" until I need it and then can't find it. What have you found best for taking care of the skin on their butts?
Also, thank you to those who recommended Tena brand. At least I was proactive enough to have those on hand when needed. They are not available in town here, but I was able to order them from Amazon.
By the way, to Newbies, when you order from Amazon, be sure to go there through Joan's homepage. The small percentage she gets helps to finance this forum which we all appreciate so much.
many have used the paste bluedaze mentioned. some like my DH has alot of issues with sensitive skin and some products make it worse. if its only on the butt then an otc product works pretty good but if its on the inner thighs scrotum etc then it may need to have something rx'd by a dr -it can turn nasty quickly if its a fungal infection. and certain chemicals in the diapers can make it worse, its a hit miss to find which work sometimes better. the tena brand works pretty good for my DH and hes ultra sensitive. A&D ointment is a nice thick creme as well and can be found at CVS/walgreens walmarts etc.if possible avoid perfumes in anything -
The best thing I found was Caldesene protecting powder....it is in the baby isle. It seals out wetness & protects chafed skin. My husband never had a pressure sore on his behind that opened...he did have a red mark on his tailbone that we feared might open, we used Zinc cream & Caldesene, thankfully it never did. Your Walgreens doesn't carry Tena brand briefs?
No, our Walgreens has only the Tena pads, not the briefs. In a town our size, we're lucky to have a Walgreens at all. We do have Target and I have not checked there yet. Walmart does not carry them.
You can order tena thru company that delivers quick: HDIS 1 800 269 4663, dh uses Tena super briefs (diapers) easier that hunting all over town and these are good quality. They will send samples also.
I have tried them all. Balmex, Desitin, Butt paste, not that good. Now I use zinc oxide cream. The brand is A&D. They have several different creams. The zinc oxide is the one. It clears the rash up overnight. If it is really bad a day or 2. I use it everyday, rash or not. The rash is always in his groin area. I just smear it on and we are good to go.
Type in "rash" in the search box at the top, making sure the "topic" circle is filled in, and a list of rash discussions will come up. Or you can copy and paste -http://thealzheimerspouse.com/vanillaforum/search.php?PostBackAction=Search&Keywords=rash&Type=Topics&btnSubmit=Search
