Are there any videos available on the internet to show me how to help my husband to get out of bed? Just today he seems to have lost the ability to push himself into a sitting position. I don't want to hurt my back helping him.
i bend the legs and knees and pull them underneath by swinging them still bent, to the edge of bed, then pull forearm up to sitting position and let them grip your arm as well. then they can stand from the edge easier. not sure about videos.
I have today come across a video which does the best job I've seen so far of truly explaining how the mind works and how alzheimer's affects it. That's not helpful in a video about how to physicall help - but it fits into the broader video topic without starting a new topic.
It's Dr David Suzuki and this series was done in 1994. The first half talks about how the brain creates memory and the second half focuses on Alzheimer's. It does an incredible job of showing what it is.
Lori - you might want to call a nursing home and see if you go in if they will show you have to do it safely. Getting a belt that goes around his waist will help a lot. There are threads here where it has been discussed.
