Oh my heavens! I just read this article, and can't believe the "scientific evidence" it is based on! If someone injected a mouse or any other creature with cancer cells, would they not develop cancer, also? The sad part is, there are a lot of people who watch Fox news and believe what they hear on that channel...
So how many caregivers have developed the disease? I would think a faciliy that does nothing but this type care would have alarms going off if this was true.
Alright, will someone please explain to me why money is being spent on research like this instead of research for a cure? When they find a cure THEN they can do studies like this. FIND A CURE for Pete’s sake! What will they come up with next????
I can't understand why all these research groups can't combine their resources, both expertise and monies, and concentrate on just one thing - find the cure! Same thing has happened for years with other diseases, diabetes, MS, etc. It seems they all go their separate directions and time and money is mostly wasted. Just my rant for the day.
Ok, well...if we're going to take this even slightly to heart (not recommended) we might as well counterbalance it with this bit of research: http://www.alzinfo.org/09/articles/prevention-and-wellness/kitchen-alzheimers-cure
It's saying that coffee, cinnamon and broccoli all have tendencies in an anti-Alzheimer's direction.
Yeah, I know. We're not going to save ourselves by drinking cinnamon-flavored coffee and eating our broccoli, but we might as well put these two stories (one good, one not) in a pot together and let them cancel each other out.
I just hate when they publish stuff like this! There has been good progress in recent years to remove the stigma associated with AD - and all it takes is one sensational headline like this to undo all that effort - arghhhhhh!
I read this article yesterday and debated with myself whether to put it on the home page under Breaking News. I decided not to post it. I figured non-Alzheimer people could read it somewhere else and cause themselves and those they know with AD more panic and anxiety.
These type of articles are so irresponsible - most people interpret what they read to their own purposes. Those who are ignorant about this disease will just add to their ignorance with this article.
I'm waiting for the phone call - "OMG! I read that Alzheimer's Disease is contagious!!! I can't come see Sid anymore."
When I was running my laboratory, I accidentally injected myself with some brain matter from a mouse, and I now live in fear of cats, brooms, shoes, and anything sticky. I have cravings for cheese, run a lot faster than before, and I seem to have developed a preference for hiding in the dark. I am so grateful that this was from a normal mouse instead of on with Azlhmihsel, I mean amzmerhis, oops...you know...that disease where you forget things, and wander away from your nest. What was I just saying..I uh forgot. anyway, I hate cinamon on my brocali, and I ah well think that well you know, the thing that is brown, and paper seems to make a soft bedding, as long as it does not get wet.....hey...who took my cheese??????
Frank, When I was reading the article and got to the part about injecting mice with AD tissue, my first thought was, "Frank could have some fun with this!" Thanks for the laugh :)
Yeah Phranque.......I prefer Francais! BTW wouldn't that make you afraid of yourself. Do you find yourself standing on a chair screaming while you fight the urge to run around in circles on the floor?
