As I've said before my husband was dxed MCI and is functioning much better with Aricept for the last year. This site has been such a blessing to me as his changes are not obvious to most people unless they are around him a lot. I have posted about some of the embarrassing or strange moments on this site and found everyone here to be very helpful to me as I adjusted to giving more and more, trying to be patient, dealing with the anxiety of his mishandling finances, trying to cope with the unmet expectations of his children etc. My elderly mother has been ill and staying with us for a few days so I've spent quite a bit of time with her today. She wanted me to watch TV with her this evening so I left my laptop (I was reading this site and just left it sitting on the couch) and went into the TV room. My husband (who never uses my computer as he has his own) apparently began reading this site. He just now came into the room and asked me if I think he has alzheimers. I said "No" because his dx is MCI. He then said, "I've decided that I don't want to be with you if you think I have alzheimers. I don't need anyone watching me trying to prove I'm sick in the head...." and he said other things along the same lines. He was angry!!! I'm very upset!

Well, good thing you called yourself Just Thinking. I wish I had thought of an alias in advance. Maybe you could tell him you were researching how well Aricept works for other people, since it worked so well for him. Just any excuse to get you out of the mess. I know you must be upset!

My alias probably saved my marriage tonite - and I will NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER log on to this site unless I'm going to post. But I do want to keep reading - I have to, you are the only people who seem to understand my life.

Wow, I'm glad to know that my dH thinks this screen on my desk is another TV, and he sometimes turns off the monitor, because he loves to turn out lights. I don't use an alias. But fortunately, you can hide behind that, but don't stop coming. I find so much support here, even tho I don't write that much. Reading what others are facing gives me courage.

that would be a very awkward scenario. i am glad you didnt put a name he would recognise. just be more mindful about logging in/out when you leave your computer and you should be fine. if its dementia, he probably wont remember the whole conversation tomorrow anyway-if you find comfort here you should come anytime you like! divvi

WOW - sometimes I feel guilty about sharing, but there is no way in the world my DH could manage the compter these days. I have worried that people I know could read my posts, but never my husband. I'm so glad you used an alias!

Sometimes my DH comes into the room while I'm on the computer on this site reading or even typing responses and he has no idea! I don't know if he can't read well enough to see it, isn't interested to try?? But it's pretty amusing to be sitting here typing about him while he's standing behind me watching!

My DH uses his computer and claims that since he can play games and use his computer and still play golf...he does not have EOAD. Sometimes (if he is having a good day or two) I begin to doubt myself and think that it is just me and he doesn't have EOAD. Then he will have a bad week where he keeps repeating himself or does some really strange things (thinking someone is stealing his tools out of the garage)and we are back to square one...what a yo yo ride.

My husband no longer uses his computer. He was never very good with it. He was just in here with me and I was typing away.

He doesn't know that Starling is me. It is a handle I use almost everywhere I post, so it is really a full scale persona. But he doesn't know that.

At some point not only can't they use a computer, but they stop being able to read a screen. I don't know if he is there or not, but it is possible.

Best thing to do with computers is to close the lid anytime you leave it, even if only for a second. Make sure you set it up so you must log in to your account (general Windows account) every time you open the lid, with an account number you LO doesn't know and cannot access.

And for Just Thinking, please remember that LO with AD (or MCI) are easy targets for scams of all kinds; sales of all kinds. If your DH has trouble with finances, it is probably time to remove them from his control. Better safe than sorry. Lots of families have lost insurance, savings, etc. because they were mishandled or not handled appropriately. My LO gave away all his personal information and soc sec nr online, complete with photos and signatures.
