My dh accumulates a lot of mucous and sometimes forgets how to spit it up or has moved down in the bed so far, I have to pull him up in order to get him into a sitting position to spit out the mucous. Believe me, it is a lot! I wonder if I can get this done before he starts to choke! I give him Levsin but wonder how much gets into his system when he is spitting up so much. Tried the Atropin which is great except it is so difficult to see one drop! Looked up syringes on the internet but they look so small and the bulbs don't look like they will help either as the openings are so small. Mostly these seem to be for putting liquids into mouth, nose, etc. Anyone know of an apparatus that I can get?

brindle maybe the transdermal patch to dry up the secretions would work better for him since he spits up so often?. there are various meds used for drying the secretions and most come in patch. atropine is one of them but there are a few more too .

My husband was given a scopolamine patch. The down side is that it made him very thirsty and he couldn't drink enought to slake his thirst. Mouth swabs weren't enough.

Just wondering could you use one of those suction things like they use on babies to clear their nose and throat??

The problem with those little suctions is that the opening are so small that not much would come out. I was told about the ones used for Gastro issues but have not been able to find them. I think even the turkey baster is too small. Can you tell I am exploring various avenues?

brindle ask about a suction machine from a medical supply place. Is your husband on hospice-it so they can help you.

No he is not on hospice or palliative care (too healthy). Will look into the suction machine. Thanks

•Disposable,Yankauer Tonsil Suction Instrument brindle-this is a good suction tip if you go that route. See if your doc will give you a prescription so insurance may cover

Do the patches take care of the constant drooling? DH leaves a trail around the house because his mouth is always open and he drools continuously.

phil-that sounds like a drug reaction. Happened to my husband. Sorry-I don't remember which one.

HAve a call into his Dr. to see if he has any ideas. He has a sinus infection and is breathing through his mouth and just drools everywhere.
