Hi folks, I'm still around although I haven't been posting. What an honor to see a discussion with my name on it! Thanks for thinking of me.
Siem was placed in May and life has changed drastically since then. It still feels new and like I have to get used to it. I visit him every other day, almost always by bike. It's a pleasant half hour bike ride each way which keeps me fit. I invested in a poncho to keep me (pretty) dry and have gotten used to battling strong head winds. Since he's been there, getting his insulin and plenty of attention he seems to me to be fairly stable. He still eats voraciously and enjoys visits.
They have a duo-bike at the nh where you sit side by side and both peddle, but only one steers (me). SInce Siem has discovered this he loves it and now if it's dry weather we go out for a ride almost every visit. The only problem is that it's hard to get him off of it when we get back.
I've joined a women's club (it used to be called "the country women" but they have changed the name to the "women of today"). Anyway they have good outings, I've joined the garden circle and the museum circle and I may sign up for bridge. Also I am running a small AD support group, 5 wives and one daughter. Gives me great satisfaction to be able to help in this modest way.
Just got back from a week in Ohio celebrating my mother's 90th birthday. Great celebration, including swimming in Lake Erie. Unfortunalely Mom is becoming forgetful and has just gone to live in an ALF, so we are trying to sort a lifetime's collection of stuff in the house.
I've enjoyed reading here today, it feels like coming home!
So good to hear from you, Jeanette, and to know how well you are doing! You will be terrific with the AD support group - who better than one with experience! Hope things will continue to go good. Keep in touch.
Hi Jeanette--so glad to hear your life is returning to more normalcy. Great on the support group--you have so much hard-won knowledge and it's wonderful you can pass it along!
