DH has been losing more short-term memory in the past couple of months. He's got FTD, but it's not dxed. He's comes up with an off-the-wall statement showing loss of short-term memory about once a day. When he starts talking, I just wait and let him finish, to see what he comes up with showing his loss of memory. It's amazing. I know that FTD folks lose their memory at the end of the disease, whereas with AD it comes at the first of the disease.
Another thing that is so different, which I've posted about earlier, is he is treating me better. We've been married almost 23 years. For most of that time, he's been as bad as anything posted on this site. Just terrible, in his abuse of me--mental, physical, emotional. He's on Seroquel, which has helped. Has been on it for over a year. Anyway, in the past 3 months, he's for the most part been treating me much much better. The rages have all but disappeared. He's also been thanking me for the things I do to take care of him and us.
The short term memory loss affects EVERYTHING. Sid can't remember what I said, what he said, what he did, what he watched on TV, or even that he says his knees hurt all of the time. His friend has had FTD for about 6 years, and is only just starting to lose some memory.
My dh also Joan. I had circle meeting this morning and before I came home I stopped and got a meal to take for dh. About 3.30 he was talking food. I told him he ate about 12.30 and he wanted to know what he had. Meat loaf, green beans, potato salad and chocolate pudding! He didn't eat the chocolate pudding but it is in the fridge waiting for him. Oh yes, when I came in with his meal he had just finished a slice of cake!!! Too bad he can't forget his hallucinations so quickly.
