We were in North Platte, Neb. at a motel breakfast bar when I noticed smoke from a building I saw on the TV. The sound was down so I couldn't hear what was going on. As I was getting coffee I saw the second plane hit. We continued on our trip to Custer, SD to our army reunion. It was surreal as we drove on a lonely road no cars in sight on that bright blue day. When we stopped for gas at a crossroads store the first thing the woman at the cafe said was "have you heard"? Every radio station we could get out there in the plains had the report of what was happening many miles away.

I was in our computer room, hubby in the kitchen. Our daughter on the east coast called. It was about the time the first jet went in. Terrible sight and we knew it was no accident......

we had just moved into our new home and I was unpacking stuff in the kitchen. Had the tv on and couldn't believe my eyes. DH was in the bathroom and I yelled through the door about the towers, minutes later the Pentagon. I don't think he believed me. Took a lot for it to sink in. I am sure, although he doesn't remember it today, that it had a profound effect on him. I know it did me.

I was in a staff meeting at work. A wife of one of the employees called and told us about it. TV in the snack room was on the rest of the day and we were glued to it. One of the employees said he was going to get his child at school. He didn't know how bad it was going to get and wanted his child with him.

a friend called and said 'turn on your tv'. i remember things went quiet and almost in slow motion as i watched open mouthed as the second plane hit the next tower. when we heard there were more unaccounted for planes- silence around the country was deafening. God Bless America and all who keep us free and spirit of unity of all in time of crisis.

I was getting ready for work when the first plane hit. Thought it was an accident. When the second plane hit we all knew better. When I got to work we all stood around not knowing what to do. Our home care patients still needed to be seen. I remember standing in a doctor's office waiting to get orders signed. The TV in the waiting room was on and as strangers we all held hands and cried.

Installing tile in the girls' bathroom upstairs. A contractor was in the next room installing wood trim. He had the radio on. Jeff had the tv on downstairs and came up to say that a plane had run into the WTC. I pictured some dumb kid piloting an ultralight.

I was getting ready to go for a doctor's appointment. On my drive to the appointment I heard on the radio about the plane hitting the Pentagon. This really bothered me since my cousin worked at the Pentagon. He told me later that, since they were doing major work on the section the plane hit, he thought it was just more noise from the workers.

I was watching the "Today Show" Not sure if it was Matt or Katie, but, they said, a plane or helicopter had hit the World Trade Center, they thought by accident. As the footage ran, I saw the 2nd plane hit... at that time everyone knew it was no accident. I just remember the sick feeling I had a the time. Then when the other 2 planes crashed.

I was on a treadmill at the gym watching a TV. Everybody stopped exercising and gathered around the TVs. We didn't talk we all watched in silence for awhile. Nobody wanted to believe what we were seeing.

I was getting ready to clean the house, younger DD was at school with her American flag for show and tell, and DH was at work. Like others had said we first thought it was an accident that a small plane had hit the first tower. I called DH at work and told him what was happening. Then as I was watching, I saw a large plane come into view. I thought why is that plane there? Then it hit......my heart sank. I sat watching it all unfold alone and so scared. My older DD was up the road at the army post, they were on lock down no one on or off the post. That had to be one of the longest days of my life. My heart was breaking over and over for those who were lost.

One of the things that hit me the most was the no planes in the skies for the 3 days after. We are near the army post always helicopters and planes in the air. The lack of them was surreal.

I called a friend about a vacation we were planning and he asked me if I had heard the news. Immediately turned on the TV just as the second plane hit. It seemed so surreal. Like blue, It seemed strange not to have planes in the sky but the first time I saw one I was terrified.

My DH and I were still sitting around our breakfast table-he had just come home off his midnight shift at the plant.
Our DD called and said turn on the TV-it was not to be turned off again for days. Tens years ago-seems like lifetime around here!

I was watching TV and could not believe what was happening. As difficult as that day was, yesterday was more difficult. Ten years ago I could have a rational discussion with DH. That week my mother who was 91 had broken her hip. We left NC to go to PA with DH driving. Six months later my mother had died. The last ten years have not been kind to DH. He has gone downhill so much. He slept in his recliner much of yesterday. He does not respond well when I talk to him. I don't know if he understands what I say. He can do all the activities of daily living, but forgets to close the car door when we go out. I went to the drugstore Saturday afternoon and called him to say I was coming home. He said to me that he was just finishing his lunch. He had eaten lunch two hours earlier. I feel like I have to watch him all the time. So much has changed in ten years.

I was at work and DH called me. then Daughter called me. The next day, DH's birthday, DH and I drove our 4 wheelers to a mountain lake and watched the moon all night. Neither of us could sleep. DH kept telling me that he knew that the moon was looking down on NY City and was seeing some really bad things. I can't believe that it has been 10 years.
