After all my complaining about Paul peeing everywhere-it nearly stopped!! So after 2 days of him hardly going at all I took him to the ER today. Thought he mght have UTI,but they said no .Said he needs to drink more-I said he drinks all the time(just went in one ear and out the other). They said he needs to move around more-I had explained he has ALZ-I told them sometimes he is just too out of it to move much. The dr.said just tell him to move around. Now how do you make someone with this disease do what they are determined not to? Anyway they cathed him for about 4 hours.Took blood ,told us to see the kidney doctor in a day or 2. Not a very pleasant trip and I do not think the darn dr. ever got the point that he has ALZ. and does not react the same as normal folks do.
so sorry you have to go thru this. Doctors are book smart but not always people smart or even know a lot about diseases. Especially emregency room doctors. They may attempt to understand what we are saying for don't understand what we are dealing with other than what they have read. Take care of yourself and don't get too worn down...... Have a good night...
i was in ER rooms more times than i like to remember. they always were for uti or dehydration issues. it was very stressful trying to keep DH in the hospital bed and or not pulling out catheters and iv's. i finally asked for ativan and it was marvelous and kept him quiet while they treated him. but the effects lasted a good while on a small dose. moving around i dont understand but getting him to stay hydrated i do. like you i dont think alot of drs understand the dementia crisis yet and how it can affect both caregiver and patient. hope he is better soon. divvi
Bak.....the Doctor is an idiot and you should NOT have to state the obvious to a Medical Doctor ........ I am sorry your path had to cross with Dr. Jerk !!!
