Don my DH is back on 2 lots of anti biotics since Thursday for another infection in the bone in his foot due to being ulcerated as a result of bad circulation and diabetes .I went to visit yesterday with my eldest daughter and he seemed more confused and his words at times jumbled up .Today the home rang me to say they had the doctor visit him again today as he was shouting at people, very unlike him as he is usually quite placid , and very unsteady on his feet although he does use a walking frame . The doctor said his b/p was up although he hasnt been on any medication for that ,his blood sugar levels were raised and he has some blood in his urine. As he is already on 2 antibiotics was reluctant to add a third in case of UTI which would need a different sort of antibiotic,so unless anything worsens over the weekend get his usual doc to do blood tests etc on Tuesday as Monday is a national holiday here and no doctors surgeries are open .I will be going to visit tomorrow ,God bless you all dealing with all that comes with AD and other dementias

aww rosieuk i hope he is calmed down a bit tomorrow. yes uti requires a culture done to see if which antibiotic is specific for a particular bacteria. can you have them go ahead and do the URINE specimen and send it to the lab for analysis so his dr can see it soon? then they will know which med to use. uti can very well be the cause of the unexpected behaviour issues. then get the blood tests on tuesday hopefullly. i hope things calm down some over the weekend.

Rosiek why do problems too often come up on week ends and holidays? Waiting for results is so hard. I hope your husband starts responding to treatment.

Rosiek, I wish we had magic answers to help you! However, I can give you a hug, and tell you that Divvi is right...

Sometimes when they have UTIs, they do have outbursts, due to the pains that they really aren't feeling, but the body is responding to the pain they can't feel (I know this doesn't sound right, but the body signals pain to our brain and their "pathway" is cut off), and it comes out as yelling and being unable to settle down. That can raise their b/p too...pain does, even when his mind isn't feeling it, his body does.

It may be that a different medication might be needed, but until the tests are run, they won't know. I hope he gets tested and the proper medications get to him soon - holiday or not!

Please let us hear what happens.

    ((((((((HUGS)))))))))

Thank you Divvi,Bluedaze and Mary for your replies ,Don went into hospital Saturday evening ,as his BP and bloodsugar went up very high ,you are right Bluedaze things do often seem to arise at weekend and holidays.Divvi and Mary yes he has UTI ,had to have a third antibiotic added for this.He had been taken off his diabetes medication a few weeks ago when he was admitted to hospital just overnight due to him collapsing as the hospital doc said it was causing kidney failure and had been doing ok on diet only until now .He has been given insulin in the hospital to bring the blood sugar down so hopefully his BP will go down too .Bloods and everything have been done so expecting all the results today .He did seem somewhat better when we visited yesterday. His infected foot still giving some concern so its wait and see what happens next really ,I will be going to see him again later today so will let you know of any changes .thank you again ((((hugs to everyone )))) Rosie
