According to our local weatherman Irene will pass most of SC without too much wind, rain or damage.
  2.
May you all be safe as the storm passes by.

I'm in western SC so we're out of harms way. But my daughter and I are flying up to Boston Friday so I can deliver her to start college at Boston University on Monday. It isn't the main move-in day--she is going for an early start program to do volunteer work for a week. But the hurricane is currently predicted to hit Boston Sunday night. Maybe we will be lucky and it will go completely out to sea. I'm not so worried about a true hurricane, as they've usually weakened a lot by the time they get to Boston. But I am worried about pouring rain when we are trying to move her into her dorm.

To all of you that are on the east coast...expecting lots of rain etc. ...if you should get more rain than you need ...will you PLEASE send it to us in Texas!!!!! We are so dry that a windshield wiper is a status symbol...to make people think you WENT somewhere where it rained.

    You all stay safe.

Prayers for safety no matter where you live!

Grannywhiskers, as a former "Okie" I love the Texas humor. Okla. could use some of that rain too.
  6.
    flo39,
There is not a whole lot of difference in a Texan and an Okie...we think a lot alike. But...we got the Alamo!
  7.
    stay safe everyone!
  8.
Also need some of that rain in Tennessee.
  9.
    And Kentucky too!

That on top of the earthquake. The night before, I was with some neighbors in VA and one of them said she always wanted to visit CA but was afraid of the earthquakes..then the very next morning a 5.9 hits. I have not heard much about aftershocks but I am in Iceland now. Grandson has his of his new friends over for 'band practice"and they are pretty good at it...and sing well in English. Two speak about 3 languages..Icelandic, English and Slovac..

Getting very anxious in NJ. Family members at the Jersey shore have left after securing their homes. We are all preparing ourselves in north Jersey for power outtages and flash flooding.

For caregivers of someone with dementia, there are some special considerations. Go to www.alz.org/safetycenter. We know how are loved ones react to news of impending storms and such, so we need to prepare for safety, calm and emergencies. When my dh was alive, I knew I could not have the TV news on or talk about it on the phone within his hearing because it upset him so much. I even kept the shades down so he couldn't see. When he could hear thunder, wind and/or rain I had to say nonchalantly, "just another storm, it will pass." He really fussed during power outtages. Good thing we live in a condo building, as we could go out into the hallway and socialize with neighbors, taking his attention off the weather.

My state of SC appears to be "off the hook." We're expecting rain and some gusty winds to continue, but nothing too traumatic. My thoughts are with those farther north.

folly* good to hear that. NC is still on the hook.
