I went to the nursing home today to see dh. He was sitting in the geri chair with his eyes closed. I went up to him and called his name. While he is in the chair he normally sits and then stands up and then sits again. He doesn't speak much anymore. A few words, but nothing makes sense. When he stood up, I put my arms around him and my cheek to his cheek and said " I love you" He quietly said back to me. I love you. When I looked at his face with surprise hearing those words, he had tears running down his face. I don't want him unhappy , I want him to be peaceful, but the tears just tore me up. If he was with me today, I was glad he knew how much he is still loved. I hope in some small way, that helps him a little bit.
I am sure also he was with you today. I doubt if he was unhappy. Those tears were probably those of happiness to see you. We just don't know what goes through their minds when they don't speak. You are giving him love and security, the best you can.
What a beautiful moment for you to treasure Paula. I agree with Shirley, I think he was moved to see you, to feel your embrace, your cheek to his, and your words of love. I believe with all my heart that even when they can't express it, they still know and love us. More important I think they need to feel and hear how much we still love them....... I think that is what triggered his tears... I know just reading your story brought a few to my eyes ♥
This is such a blessing and great gift for the both of you. I am a firm believer in blessings and how they affect everyone not just the recipients. You have blessed all of us and given us hope with this beautiful story. thanks...... I too believe the tears your dh shed were from happiness not sorrow or pain. Give him another hug from us......... let him know how he made us smile.........
