Lynn continues to amaze me. He loves to read now, not books of course, but he reads the commercials on TV and any sign he sees. Recently when I take him outside for his walks he started saying random numbers all the time. It took me awhile to figure out he was reading the license plates LOL

Three times in the last two weeks he has said his name. Twice in the third person….. like he wanted to sit in the sun but I told him it was cloudy so the sun was hiding and he said, “Well I guess you are screwed Lynn” LOL

Yesterday on a whim I asked him what his name was, fully expecting him not to know as always. But he shocked me by saying clear as day “ Lynn Edward Peter Vachon” WHAT!!!?? He had everything right except for the Peter, that is his father’s name. But perhaps they called him that when he was a child? It didn’t matter to me, he not only knew his first name, but his middle and last name too!!

The nurse then asked him who I was. He doesn’t know my name when asked liked that, but if one were to ask where is Nikki he always points to me. So, when he replied with “my wife” I was shocked once more! She then said, no I mean what is her name? And he said, “we are the same”….. this confused us so she asked what do you mean?

And Lynn looked at us like we were the demented ones and said, “she is me, I am her, we are one"………………… WOW!!!! I don’t have words to describe the feelings that comment provoked in me. Even in late stage he still knows, that strong bond even Alzheimer's has not severed. ♥

    Alzheimer's 389

    Nikki & Lynn 1

But, that 1, that is the most important one of all!

How beautiful Nikki! Thanks for sharing that.

How wonderful, Nikki! I am so happy for you!

I agree with mary22033, this is a very beautiful story, one you will cherish forever. I am so glad you have this memory. Give Lynn a huge hug from me even tho he knows not who I am. Just the fact that he can have such a loving, caring, feeling is a blessing to those of us that no longer have that with our loved one. Cherish it and please keep posting the beautiful positive things that happen. Have a great evening.

nikki, i have been reading different post over the last couple of days since i have came to find out about this site. i love what lynn said, it is so wonderful when we realize that there is such a clear thought and a deep feeling that can still come out. i read a couple of your post to the dr on the website , is lynn still on marinol? I am interesting in asking bobby's dr about it. he does not have the desire to eat much anymore. i know it is not alot but since 2007 he has lost 35 pds. i think bobby always was a bit adhd , he was quite an artist but only finished about 2/3 of them. i would love to try something that might get just a bit of focus back and the desire to eat a bit more.

Thank you all so much :)

Donna, welcome to the family! To answer your question, yes Lynn is still on marinol. There is a whole post here about it. There are better appetite stimulants, by better I mean more studies have been done on the side effects. Lynn developed pulmonary embolisms so he couldn't take them anymore and that is why I researched and found marinol. As with any drug there are side effects. Lynn is stage 7, so we really had nothing to lose in trying it. He hasn't had anything but great results and for that I am very grateful. Talk with his doctor and see what he says. I hope you find something that helps your Bobby ♥

Mammie what you wrote was beautiful, thank you :)

Nikki, what a beautiful moment for you to cherish. amazing what can come out of their mouths at times. the marinol surely seems to have a really good effect on Lynn. when we are in the last stages and nothing is helping taking that risk is about the only thing left to try. its wonderful to hear of such success.

Donna, welcome to our family. Sorry you have to be here but you won't find any more supportive caregivers anywhere else in your life. I love each and every one of "US" and you will learn to love us too. Ask anything, rant/rave about anything, share anything and you will have more support than you ever thought possible.

Welcome Donna! You have come to the right place.

I reinjured my knee and wasn't able to drive, or move for that matter. (dislocated it) I haven't seen Lynn since Saturday........ I miss him SO much when I can't go in for a couple of days. I was fitted for a brace today that will allow me to drive so I will be going in to see him tomorrow! Every time I miss seeing him for more than 2 days in a row, I always have this knot in the pit of my stomach.... will my absence be too much, will this be the time he completely forgets me? It isn't an entirely irrational fear..... accccccck

Nikki, I hope the brace works well for you and that Lynn still knows who you are. Enjoy every minute of your visit.

Nikki, what a blessing you were given! Gives us all hope that our LO will have a moment of clarity and acknowledge us. You both have such a close bond that my heart is always warmed by your posts. Praying your knee brace does the trick and that you will be able to get out to see Lynn as much as you like. ((hugs))

Thank you so much Jean, Elaine and Phil......... he did remember me, whew!!!! He said there's my baby and opened his arms for a hug awwwwwwww!! Very grateful!
The brace helps keep the knee in place, but driving was difficult and painful. Ah well, small enough a price to pay to be able to spend time with Lynn. We had such a wonderful day ☼

Nikki, what a wonderful story....I'm thrilled for you...yes, you are "one" and will always be...
    Hope your knee is better.
I'm sure the thrill of seeing your DH made the knee a "minor" thing!!!
Best wishes to you...you are in my prayers...
