I saw a program on TV that says most expenses occur in the last year of life. It seems to me that we need some sort of logic in place that says if you have limited funds, and you have to choose between spending on money on someone 85 or 65 it should be spent on the younger person. I am talking about tax payer funds, private money do with it as you wish. There needs to be some policy in place that would help reduce the cost of health care. Perhaps other factors would come into play, If you smoke, then perhaps this is a choice you make and it should limit the funds spent on that individual. We have to stop acting like we have unlimited funds and be more responsible. I would prefer this type of cost cutting rather than raising the age requirements.
My daughter's company discounts her contribution for health insurance if she doesn't smoke, use drugs, doesn't abuse alcohol, can prove that she uses her gym-etc. Of course the overweight abusers are crying foul.
>>>Of course the overweight abusers are crying foul.>>.
Before condemning overweight people to less health care one needs to find out the reason for being overweight. Mine is not due to overeating or eating fattening foods all the time. When I was 12 I went from 88 to 150 in three months all due to an ovarian disease. It has plagued me all my life and add this stress onto it and you have gross obesity. But then - I have no heathcare and do not go to the doctor so I guess I don't need to cry.
I am just thinking we need to do something to cut medical cost, I would like to see us spend more money on prevention and more on younger people and less on end of life as we do now.
HOW ABOUT GETTING RID OF THE )(&(^&^#^_+&$###&(**_)()+)_*&^%%$%$&^^*+))()*)(*(*PRIVATE FOR PROFIT (^*%*%#*(*^&^&$^%@^*^*&()(*)(*(^%$%#INSURANCE COMPANY MIDDLE MEN, ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGG,!!!!WHO TOTALLY DICTATE HEALTH CARE POLICIES? ESPECIALLY IN THE U.S.!!!!!!
Sigh......., never mind, few GET IT, anyway.
And Charlotte, you or no one else has ever had a reason to "cry".
Maybe we should kill everyone who can't afford the "good life"? Whata ya say, people? The mentally ill? The addicts? Brown people are always a good bet. And, do we REALLY spend enough money on endless wars? Sky's the limit.
(sorry for the caps and attitude, but this thread seemed to be taking a turn that was just rubbing me the wrong way)
Oh Ed, you touched a raw nerve with me......I am so angry that insurance companies dictate what or how patients are treated by their physicians.....pisses me off! We, the consumers, pay and pay and pay for coverage and then when you make a claim the "powers that be" look for every way to reject the claim and nickel and dime you to death with overblown bills.
Sandi*, I'm proud to have touched a "nerve" with someone here. We, collectively, have our priorities all antigargled. We've been brainwashed into believing that the U.S. system of health care is a be all and end all system.... B.S.! If that was truly the case there would be less need for all the hard work Joan puts in here. There would be less need for the wonderful work the folks over at the FTD forum put in. I'm pissed, too. But, "brainwashed' is the key word here. Hey!, who won American Idol last session?!! Dancing With The Stars?!!
Funny this should come up right now. I have just been cruising insurance sites including the new govt. one because our coverage is going to end soon and of course I am scared. Some of the ones I have seen are like $700 a month and that doesn't include rx! That is over $8,000 a year. !!!! Anyways we still have a college son who needs surgery.... I have been researching for about two hours and have to take a break because I ... am.... freaking..... out! My husband is only 58 so I guess has to be disabled for 24 mos to get medicare. I think.... oh my mind is a dripping sponge with no more room in it. I have to take a break.
...."I think.... oh my mind is a dripping sponge with no more room in it. I have to take a break."
grendelsma, it's NOT funny that your mind is in such a state at this point. The system is designed so that you're in such a state. Confused is as confused does.
I wish I could paint a picture that shows the hand we've all been dealt, but there are many who wouldn't believe the dismal realities of it anyway. My father was DXed with AD in 2003, thankfully heart failure took him before the dreaded long drawn out AD did. Bottom line was no one on the AD side of his dying cared a rip roaring rat's patooty about his condition. Too "costly". Heart disease, now there's something you can 'sink your teeth into' from a cost stand point of view. Especially if you have 'good' insurance, which he had. Claims were a pain in the arse, anyway. I'm tired of it all. My dear wife is 99% certifiable suffering with FTD. Her insurance won't cover full DX expenses. I'm spent. There are folks out there who are 100% in worse shape than me. Go figure.
Just set up DH in the uninsured pool here in our state. 24 months to get on Medicare. So we have 8 months we have to cover now. It is total almost 900.00 a month for it all. Add to that the 400.00 a month for me and DD. And we have not bought meds yet. I already told DD no Christmas this year. We will have no money for it. There has to be a better way. I have cut out so much and could cut more. But it make you sick to work all your life and have to end up like this, month to month. And then our government goes and gives who knows how much money to how many countries around the world?
