30 whales beached on Key Largo over a month ago. Two were able to be released. The remainder were kept at a marine mammal preserve. One by one they either died or had to be euthanized. Many volunteers are needed 24/7 to keep the whales upright to prevent drowning. A baby and a juvenile remain. My daughter and I are taking the 8pm to midnight shift which will carry over to the start of my birthday on July 4th. I will be in a wet suit in the water with them and come out smelling like fish. It will be the chance of a lifetime for me.
I will have to cut my well manicured nails. I am so excited about this. Many years ago my husband and I were privileged to encounter a wild dolphin who came right up to us and let me hug him. Oh-how he would have loved to go on this venture.
