I thought there must be others like me who would have loved to have a pet but who has a spouse that absolutely refused to have any animal in the house.
When our only son was little he desperately wanted a dog but even when we moved to a huge property his father would not allow him to have a pet. This is a man who was a good father in many other ways.
Especially now that he has AD a little dog or cat might give us both some comfort but he still remains adamant that animals belong outside. Strange that he has forgotten much else but this has stuck.

Well, the one thing you can count on with AD is that things will change. Hopefully, your husband will change his attitude, so you can have the affection and company that a furry friend provides.

My father grew up on a farm. They had plenty of cats and dogs, but still considered them to be working animals. We never got to have them as pets when I was growing up, either. My mother periodically weakened, especially around Christmas time, but my father held firm. Didn't get to have pets until I went out on my own. The funny thing is that, after my mother died from AD, my father came to live with us. We had three cats at the time -- indoor cats, we don't dare let small pets outside here for fear the coyotes will get them -- and he absolutely adored them.
