I haven't seen our good by to a miserable May and a new June check in so I started this..hope it is not a duplicate..if so Joan an sort it out or her admin guruette.
It is windy here again...and I have to set off to the vet for some medicine for Ebonie the cat and then go stand in line at the post office..then back to work her at el jacal ( the hovel) I call a house these days.
  2.
can admin correct the title..not butin but BUSTIN' is what it should have said..Good grief when I let Cookie the cat type for me I never know what she will misspell..
  3.
Mimi-don't worry. Gracie's spelling aint worth a #&%% either. Besides-with all talk about poopy pants Cookie's slip may be appropriate :0)
  4.
Yes, June, and I gave myself a migraine eating Fresh Market cupcakes. Well, it's improving. (my head, that is.)
Jeff is taking lots of naps and I have no more to say about that.
  5.
I am seeing what something as minimal as a head cold does to an AD patient. Steve caught one from our aide and the results ain't pretty! More confusion, much less cooperation than usual. Cancelled daycare and my lunch plans for tomorrow, we will be hunkering down for the duration.
  6.
I thought the month of May was the pits, but this is only June 1st and it's fixing to be worse. It's only 3:30PM and this is what has happened so far :-) #1 Had an allergy test and found out I am allergic to most everything. Looking at probably two years of allergy shots I will have to give myself and I am scared to death of needles. #2 My computer got a virus or whatever. Cost $350 to fix it. My "top of the line" virus program didn't pick it up. #3 The A/C went out - another freon leak!!!! Thankfully, it wasn't 100°+ out - only 92°.

Think I will go to bed and pull the covers up over my head. Tomorrow has to be better LOL

Today starts hurricane season here in SC also but like our local weather man says "the only one that counts is the one that hits where you live". After all the tornadoes the past few weeks I hope the hurricanes stay out to sea. We don't need any more destruction.
  7.
I can't reach my Mass. family. Severe tornadoes. Hope Joan's family is safe.

Redbud...allergy shots you give yourself? I have taken them for years and when injections are given there is usually a 20 minute wait to watch for any troublesome reactions. Who is telling you you can give yourself these sub q injections? That would worry me. I had a severe reaction once and ended up in the ER later at night from a delayed reaction.

As to computers...I gave up on PCs a long time ago and now have MACs. Had to get past the learning curve but it is pretty easy..if you know how to drive a car then when you need to learn stick shift you have less to learn...same with computers. So good luck with the cleansing..

Cooled off today but yesterday was a killer. 90 and humid. Bought a new dehumidifier and a/c for the bedroom today. Now we won't see hot weather again this year!

Charlotte, this may not be the place to post this, but I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy hearing about your experiences in the parks. I always loved camping in them with the kids when they were growing up, and I'm there with you in spirit as you meet and deal with all the campers. You probably know our parks in B.C. My favourite is Ivy Green, between Nanaimo and Ladysmith. We always tried to get the same campsite, and I think my feet would remember today the path to the water tap, the wood pile and the outdoor loo.

Beautiful day today - around 70. Last night we had a good thunderstorm and rained early this morning but the rain was gone for the day.

Redbud - I gave my husband allergy shots for a year. That is all it took to build up his immunity. They were charging us for him to go get them and could not validate the cost. I showed them I could do it and the rest is history.

Mary75 - we have not seen many parks in BC. When I was a teenager my Girl Scout troop met Girl Guide troops at a lake near Aldergrove. We had a lot of fun. We have traveled through it but usually it was our last leg home. When we got our Washington state drivers license we go the enhanced ones so we could go into Canada without needing passports. Now I don't know if we will be able to. We met a couple a few weeks ago (the one whose husband has early dementia) who told us they would drive to Alaska in their car instead of taking their RV and camp. They said there are lots of campgrounds along the road up there of which much of it is in Canada.

That was probably Cultus Lake. Speaking of campers. One summer at Little Qualicum Falls on Vancouver Island, I noticed an older man with flowing white hair who was sleeping in his car at a camp site and using the picnic table and fire pit in his camp site. He turned out to be a big shot at CBC Television in Toronto who was so stressed out from his job when every second had to be accounted for that he took the summer off and reduced living to sleeping, eating and enjoying nature in the park. I thought it was the ideal way to live and wanted to do it myself.

Ha ha June?!#@**!! I decided to drive south to my daughter's. Took two days of driving through lightening thunder rain hail snow and when I finally arrived in Davis, CA I turned on the news and there was a tornado warning on tv for the area I had just driven through. Weather so cold and rainy I had to borrow sweaters from my daughter but it IS GOING TO BE SUNNY and WARM. (O by the way the tornadoes here are not really like the ones in the midwest where I grew up.)
  10.
Hot and windy in Kansas again today. DH and I spent a couple of days in the camper at our little county lake. I caught a couple of fish, drank some beer and read on my Kindle. It was relaxing for me. DH got antsy for his recliner around noon today so we headed back home (3 miles). After the first mile of me driving the RV I thought to myself..."the gas gauge is broken so I better fill up when I hit town". Couldn't have been 5 seconds later I ran out of gas. Was able to turn into the driveway of a farmhouse. We were able to locate a friend who could help and about 30 minutes later I drove the rest of the way home. It was rather comical. Now DH is keeping his recliner warm with one of the dogs on his lap.
  11.
it snowed here in montana again today. The weekend is suppose to be great. Sunday is our 35th anniversity. DH is planning a movie, trip, and dinner. Hopefully the excitement will not make him crash. I'm going to plan for both the best and the worst.

Take a pair of binoculars, turn them backwards, shut one eye, and that's how it looks when you're at the bottom of a deep well. I had no idea before but I sure do now. Nothings changed - it's just always a little harder and more exhausting. It's such a joke that so many people in my life praise what I'm doing so profusely. It's not just friends and family - it's the doctor, the specialist, the case manager, and the care worker.

The thing is everyone here with a * has done it and everyone else here is in the same battle. I'm no different. You could fill oceans with what people don't know about people - or want to.

I've been lucky with most friends. Some have become dreadful; but, most have been pretty good or even great and I've been blessed with more than my share. There are two reasons I mention this here. One is that in a card game with some of the boys here last month I remembered that over a year ago I suddenly said that people had to go easy on me because I couldn't handle it. Someone had taken a shot and even though we've all done that thousands of times - I was being hurt and couldn't take it. Last month I shot back as good as I got and it was all water off a duck's back....so, I'm better or worse? Two years ago I got frustrated when my wife got in the way and fouled things up as I took all the bags of groceries up into the kitchen and unloaded them - always shutting the door as I got there or standing right in the way or even getting back into the car. Now I still drag her with me and do it all without getting frustrated. I just do it. Yet, I'm supposed to be worse right? Last year I couldn't sleep. Now I sleep like a baby and if she opens my door I just tell her it's rude to go into other people's rooms and she shuts the door and gets on with moving everything around. I can hear the sink tap running wildly but the stopper and plug are in the drawer beside me - so it's just water down the drain. I roll over and go back to sleep. When I'm honest it looks like I'm coping better; but, it sure doesn't feel like that at all.

The second point with friends is that I have 17 (counted them) friends/couples who would put me up for the night with no notice (most from a lifelong basketball team thing) all roughly my age. Of all of them which is actually 31 people in total - only 4 are either happily retired or looking forward to it. Most of them are having serious problems sounding ok with it. If my wife didn't have AD, I would be happier than a pig rolling in it.

That seems almost funny. It doesn't take much to make us feel like we have tons of problems and there's nothing like actually being up to your neck in really serious things to forget all about that other stuff that used to be so important.

I'm struggling and I need to talk and help myself out of it. I hope everyone is doing as well as can be.

    Wolf,
I too have been blessed by many friends who still include us in everything and who would do what they could if I asked. Like you I find it ironic that people keep saying how great it is that I deal with DH day in and day out. The thing is that they would all do the same with their spouses....and some are without thinking about it.
You don't plan on this but it is part and parcel of being married and the true meaning of "for better or for worse"!
  15.
Say, Wolf, I think Your wife and MY DH are communing somehow..what is it with the groceries..well I know..it is they somehow want to be useful and helpful. Thing is, when I unload my shopping cart I do it in such a way that the cold stuff is pretty much in one bag, the dry goods in another and the toiletries in another..and that way when I drag the bags in I can set them where the items need to go and empty there..but DH gets everything out so I end up rebagging things to get them there in one trip instead of a million.
The other little game he is playing now is turning off all the lights, locking all the doors, wanting to know who I am writing to or what am I doing on that thing..the computer...
And he is forgetting that he just ate so he fixes yet another breakfast or lunch but not dinner yet..so he is grazing all day and on the one hand it has been better on his sugar readings but I am forever cleaning up the damn kitchen.

I am not going to bring him to the playground anymore unless we get our kids under control LOL sigh...

Oh, as to the friends..I think I could count on maybe4 and that is a maybe with their lives so busy...and normal...

Morning everyone. june is here and going by at a fast pace. i know before we know it summer will be half over. so many losses of late and so many struggles. within the exasperation i have b een blessed with a new grandson of 7lb last week. he was a bit early but healthy and has sturdy lungs. ha! those of you who have been around for some time know i have issues leaving DH but i made the trip to see grandson and had inhome aide for DH. he was in good shape and non the worse for having gone so we do learn eventually its ok to have some respite time away. it was good to see family and new grandbaby. with all the sadness of AD its good to see the positive signs of life still abound.

sunny hot and super humid here in tx and only more weeks of drought will tell how hot and dry its going to be. i dont know if i wish for rain or not with all the tornadoes and seasonal weather issues.
squirrels still coming for sammiches every day and when you get stressed out somtimes just stopping to visit with nature is a quick cure. :)

Yes, it's June and HOT in KY. Too hot to work outside, so we are stuck inside all day and night! Hate this!

Good day for DH so far. Got up, took a shower without me asking him to; got dressed in the clothes I had laid out for him. We went to breakfast with our small group. First time he has gone in about 6 wks. Has seemed perfectly "normal" today! Wonder how this can happen?? And wonder if I'll get two days in a row like this??

Divvi, congrats on the new grandbaby! So happy you got to go see him and that hubby did well.

You all have a good day.

Isn't this the cat's mewo..in winter stuck inside cuz it is too cold..in summer stuck inside with the AC cuz it is too hot..just can't win.
  19.
wolf and phil: I finally figured out what people are really saying when they tell me what a great job I'm doing with DH. What they really mean is: "If this happened to my spouse, I would not put my life on hold to take care of them at home. I would put them in a facility asap and go on with my own life." I know this is what they are thinking, because a very close friend actually came out and told me recently. What people don't realize is, it is simple to make that statement, but it doesn't take into account the emotional/financial, etc. tolls of placement. They just see how overwhelming at-home caregiving is and think they could not bear up.

Divvi--so glad you took the plunge and left DH to see new grandbaby. Sometimes we just have to be brave and go for it!

Got up at 6 and the sun was out. It is now an hour later and the clouds are moving in again and it looks like more rain..rats.
  21.
marilyn, I never thought of it that way..that they are saying in a veiled way that they would put the LO in a NH so they could get on with it....the undertone to me is that maybe their own marriage is not that great either.. I worry about the in home help costs or NH home costs every time I see a change in my DH..last night when I was talking to my BIL who is visiting, about how our meals have changed since DH now likes to graze more than have a set dinner and how light dinners are now by saying in the mid or late morning and afternoon he has a snack ( usually another breakfast or lunch since he forgets he ate) he will eat...DH didn't ask what do I have as a snack he said " What is a snack?"..and that is telling me he is starting to forget common words now...another step to the left.

Babysitting at our Daughter's house for the next 2 days. Ava is 3 1/2 and Brecken is one. Their house is a 3 floor condo and I can tell you that they need to get rid of this place and buy a nice RANCH on one level. These stairs are killing my old knees! DH is here too so I am technically watching 3 kids. He's really getting on my nerves with his picking on everything the kids do. Next time I may leave him at home to fend for himself. Love the kids but love this glass of midnight wine better right now!

I'm back from my trip to Chicago area for my daughter's retirement party. I had a great time - her school (she is a high school guidance counsellor) party on Friday, a family dinner in a very nice restaurant on Saturday, and a big lawn party by their lake on Sunday. The weather was perfect. My wife's sister, husband, son, and DIL came, so we had some from our side of the family. Our son-in-law comes from a LARGE Italian family, and most of them were there. Flights both ways were uneventful, except that USAir lost my bag on the flight home. They delivered it while we were having dinner. My wife did very well with the 3 women I hired to care for her while I was gone, and has settled into her normal routine now that I am home. I'm thinking seriously of taking another break next winter to visit our daughter and husband in Florida (they will spend 4 months in Illinois, 4 months in Maine, 3 months in Florida, and 1 month travelling - this year to Viet Nam.

Lois - isn't it great to be up higher so you can see things better? And to be able to get up to the bathroom without stopping? Get food, drinks, etc.? I love driving in the motorhome better than the car because you can see so much more.

Yesterday was rainy and today was beautiful. We have an RV club in the park this weekend and I really enjoyed chatting as I checked them in. Also checked in a couple from Florida who have come across the south and up the west coast stopping at wine country area. Besides us and California, Oregon also has a big collection of wineries and vineyards in the Willamette Valley. They said they have a big collection of wine to take back and expect to add more the week they are here.

I enjoy working but I can see it bothers Art more and more not working. I can also see that he probably could have been hired as there are things like weed eating/trimming he could do and helping repair things (as long as he was not in charge). I feel sorry for him but such is life I guess.
