I have seen some of you write about having these kindle devises to put books on. I don't know anything about them and am wondering how one goes about loading the book once it has been bought. If anyone could give me some tips, I would be grateful as a I'm thinking of purchasing one if I can understand how they work. Thanks
I just got one the other day and I LOVE it. It is very simple to use and download books on. Google Kindle instructions and you should find everything you need to know. Click on Joan's homepage....Amazon . com...... I was able to get mine for 40% off!
Kindle is an electronic reader. All you have to do is look for a book on Amazon. If it comes in a Kindle edition, you click "Kindle Edition" and buy it. It is then automatically downloaded to your Kindle. Amazing technology. What I love about it is that you can change the font size for your eye comfort, and if you don't know what a word means, you just put the cursor in front of it, and the definition comes up at the bottom.
If you are thinking of purchasing a Kindle, I would appreciate it if you would do it through my home page - www.thealzheimerspouse.com - as I get a small commission on whatever anyone buys through Amazon on my website. It helps keep my site up and running. Just look on the right side of my home page, and scroll down and click on the big Kindle ad. Or copy and paste this link - http://astore.amazon.com/wwwthealzheim-20/detail/B002FQJT3Q
o sylvia, I love my kindle. My son gave me one for Christmas. It is very easy to download books on. The cheaper one works on any wireless system. You can even download at a coffee shop. It is very helpful if you have arthritis or soreness in your hands, a 700 page book is as light as your thin kindle!
Thank you for the replies, Joan, which kindle do you recommend, there seem to be several available. I don't know much about them, but they sound great and I will certainly buy from your website.
The cheapest one works great. I love mine. I carry it with me everywhere and read a page here and there. DH's aide got one after she saw mine and has downloaded puzzles on it as well. The Kindle always remembers where you were so no worry about loosing your page.....even if you are reading several books at a time....(I can't do that but know some that do).
I have the original. With the cheaper one, does it need to be on a wireless system? Mine doesn't. I can take it anywhere and don't have to do anything to it except turn it on.
All I know is that I waited and waited and waited for two years for the price to go down. I finally got tired of waiting, and paid the full $259, grumbling and complaining the whole way. A few weeks later, they lowered the price to $189. I was miffed, to say the least. But I love it so much that I stopped complaining about the price.
I bought one the week before the price went from $149 to $119 arrgh. The only difference is that there are ads on the screen when it is asleep. Because we don't live near a large city they didn't recommend getting the pricier model with the WiFi.
Hey Joan, I got the cheaper one, it does need to be on wi-fi to download or check facebook, but can read anywhere. I live in the boondocks and have wi-fi on my computer but even in our small town there are many places that are wi-fi hot for public.
I am a maniac. I got the Kindle DX when it came out. I was its best salesperson! Then I got my iPad, which has Kindle app on it. And loved it. Plus all my games! Then I got the smaller international Kindle version ($189) that fits in my purse and is very lightweight. I love it! And I can read it anywhere. However, when I want to read in bed, the iPad (3G and wifi) is better (in the sunlight the Kindle is my choice - it is lighter and easier on my eyes)...AND my iPad and Kindle sync to the last page I read on either device!!! It is so cool!!!
It was $359 in the beginning. Then Oprah gave everyone in the audience a Kindle and told the people watching on tv that they could get $50 off with a special Oprah deal. Later on the regular price dropped to $289 and finally to $259, which is when I bought mine. (Sorry Joan, I was unaware of your connection to Amazon) and I sure got my money's worth loading it up with books before a few long cruises. So much so that I don't mind missing out on the present low prices. I love the Whispernet, usually browse for books on the computer and then, having set up an account with Amazon, buy with One Click and start counting off the seconds. Most books arrive, not in 60 seconds, but about 10! I have the Amazon credit card with automatic pay, so the whole thing is super simple.
I loved mine too, until I accidentally killed it. I fell asleep reading in bed, and the kindle slid under the covers. When I was getting out of bed in the wee dark hours, my elbow crunched the screen into oblivion. Couldn't find any info that it was repairable, so that was that. I just can't see spending another 139 bucks, klutz that I am. (recently drowned my cellphone in a halfcup of water in my car's cup holder)
how long did you have the kindle before it broke? Did you call Kindle support at Amazon to find out if they could do anything? My kindle's screen went crazy on me one day, after having it for only a month, I spoke with Amazon and they sent me a new one the next day. I had to return to old one to them but they supplied me with a prepaid label via email to send it back. Can't hurt to call.
