I'm hoping someone can tell me about this drug.I need help coping with DH without some help. anyone????? I have prescription and wondering if I should have it filled.
The brand name for that drug is Celexa. I have not taken that one but have been on Zoloft, 50 mg for a little over 2 years. I too had a difficult time with dealing with DH and the Disease. Zoloft has really helped me not be such an emotional wreck with rollercoaster emotions. I still have times when I cry (who doesn't) but Zoloft has helped me get a grip and better deal with it.
My concern was "will I get 'hooked' on it?" My endochrinologist asssured me that it is not addicting.
I suggest you have it filled. Good luck in getting some relief.
I took it for several years and it was wonderful for me. This spring I decided to "wean" myself off it. First went from one every morning to skipping 1 morning for a couple weeks - then skipped 2 mornings etc. The past couple weeks down to just 1 a week. Next will be done with it. My Doctor suggests I might want to start taking it again in the winter but I don't think so.
I tried it last year, but only for 3 days because I couldn't bear the nausea, hot flashes, and fatigue it caused. But that was me. Everyone's different, and I am told that it is well worth trying a different one if the first one doesn't agree with you. In my case, I found that herbal supplements including Holy Basil (Tulsi) and a multi-"adaptogen" keeps me more or less on the right side of functional.
I take this drug also but 40 mg. I started with 20 mg. I have found that it helped me with my hot flashes especially at night. Without it, I was an absolute wreck and couldn't handle much of anything. It keeps me on an even keel without taking away your emotions.
The next generation SSRI, basically a "daughter" drug to Celexa, is Lexapro. Developed for those with issues on compliance due to harsh side affects. You can get on to Lexapro with hardly any sde affects at all and it works miracles. My only side affect when starting it was a low grade headache for about 7-10 days. Worth it, in my book.
