My DH has begun to complain that is hands and wrists are cold. His circulation is good but he is really concerned. He takes Aricept, Namenda and Sinemet and I don't see anything that might suggest this is a side effect. His hands feel cold to me but he said that how it is in his wrists and occasionally into his forearms (which feel warm to me). Any suggestions?
Try putting gloves on his hands and see if that helps. I would note it, maybe let his doctor know. Could be the nerves for that area are being affected by the disease. As I have noted from others. symptoms come and go. This may pass and then something new will come up.
There is a product called Wristies that does wonders for cold hands, arthritic hands, etc. They are soft fleece gloves that slip over the hands, but leave the fingers and thumbs exposed and free. Postmen love them. Writers love them. I'm sure you can google the term "Wristies." They are inexpensive and the service is prompt. This product was developed by a young teenage girl and filled such a need that she was able to start her own company. I highly recommend them and think they would help your husband
Thanks mary75. I'm going to show the Wristies to DH and see if he would be interested in wearing them. Right how it is 75 degrees out and he is asleep in his recliner, jeans, shoes, t-shirt, sweatshirt pulled down over his hands and covered up with a blanket. It makes me sad that today he is cold all over.
Charlotte.....I will be sure to share this with his doc.
Sheila, two summers ago, DH wore a heavy winter coat, hat and gloves all summer. Couldn't stand the a/c or overhead fans. I suffered that summer. When winter came, he was fine - was never cold. Never did find the cause of this. I just think it was another phase. Sometimes it's aches and pains in a certain area one day, then somewhere else the next. Just never know.
I think the theory behind the Wristies is that there is a plexus of nerves in the front of the wrist, above the hand. Keeping that area warm extends the benefits into the whole hand. They feel light, soft and comforting right away. That might not come through with just a picture.
I think this is part of the disease unless there is another condition that could contribute to this such as poor circulation. My DH always was warm...I was the one chilly. Now he is sitting on his hands, wearing sweaters when it is hot out, covering up with blankets, had his electric blanket on at night..He is chilly all the time.
Phranque and Sheila1951 you ar both a hoot! This made my morning. My war is with this Alz disease and YOUR Army and Navy sure helped me out. LMAS Sweet Pea
