I was delighted to meet Joan as well as many old friends at a care giver seminar this morning. It was hosted (nice breakfast) by Harbor Place. The affair was put on by an experienced touring couple. What really put me off is that it was faith based-that should have been on the flier. I, and the woman next to me felt like a captive audience. I was amazed as to how clueless the presenters were about the day to day life of relentless care giving. It was all goody two shoe. No mention of how to change poopy diapers while holding your nose. Before you all get mad at me: I am not against religion-just having it shoved down my throat. Oh-for your chuckle of the day-spellcheck doesn't like "poopy" bluedaze
I'm excited! Today my "vascularly demented" husband (he's fairly high functioning still) and I attended a caregivers' seminar sponsored by Alz Association, Council on Aging and several vendors, non-profits and other businesses. It was extremely well-organized. There were classes for professionals to take for professional credit as well as presentations for the rest of us on meds, grief (not necessarily after physical death), support groups, communication. High point for me was hearing Jolene Brackey (author of CREATING MOMENTS OF JOY) speak "up close and personal." Very uplifting. I recommend her and her book. We live in the country between 2 wee towns; so I was also pleased to learn there are several home health care groups that are available to me if/when I might need them. Just wanted to share today's "moment of joy."
