Doctor just saw DH and he is now adding in Depakote to help with the outbursts. I've read a little about it but wondering if any of you have any experience with this? Thanks.
My DH was put on Depakote soon after diagnosis to help with the aggitation. The dr took him off of depakote because the blood tests showed elevated liver enzymes. He wasn't on it long enough to tell if it helped him. Blood tests must be done ergularly. I believe many spouses are using depakote for aggitation managment. there have been previous threads you might want to search.
My DH has been on depakote er since 2004 for dx complex migraines. he has had mini strokes then suffered from severe head aches and leg weakness. He takes 2 250 mg tabs am and 1 at pm. Dr checks liver every six months. He was going every six months until last month when I determined it was too difficult to get him in car. We are on hospice now.hospice pays for this med along with Parkinsons med but not for diabetic meds. Nellie
I would like to note depakote has not affected his combativeness. Not one bit and he has taken it for a long time. I wish it would! Back when he was mobile he did take abilify and that increased sugar levels and did calm him. Now he isn't taking abilify, just liquid ativan. Nellie
