My DH has been diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer. He has had two brain bleeds which they said was causing his loss of memory but now the are saying that the Alzheimers may have cause the bleeds. Has anyone heard of Alzheimers causing bleeding in the brain?
A previous brain bleed was found on one of Sid's MRI's. According to our neurologist, it had probably happened a long time ago, and was not caused by the Alzheiemr's. That's all I know aboout it.
An increasingly recognized cause of brain hemorrhage in the elderly is amyloid angiopathy. Amyloid—a protein found in the brain of people with Alzheimer's disease—is deposited in the brain vessels, causing them to weaken. Indeed, patients with Alzheimer's disease are at greater risk for amyloid-related brain hemorrhages.
Yes. While Jeff was participating in an AD vaccine clinical study, his MRIs showed that he had had 2 or 3 recent microbleeds. This eliminated him from further vaccine studies because the amyloid does, apparently, put one at higher risk for bleeds, and the process of clearing plaques that the vaccine hoped to achieve might exacerbate the problem, in theory.
My assumption is that since the one can lead to the other, microbleeds can be part and parcel of the decline process.
In 2008 my DH had a small TIA in the pons..a lacunar stroke said to be very tiny. Do these micro bleeds present with symptoms similar to what might be expected in a TIA? My DH has not had an MRI since..so I do wonder about this especially at times when he doesn't seem himself. It is so hard to know with his diabetes and glucose levels which can swing, or the A fib issues..I am always on the edge of some kind of impending disaster.
