Well, things had been quiet for quite a while and then yesterday I got a phone call from the ALF. SIL had thumbed a ride to Krogers in town to get some cat food. She is obsessed about buying cat food....a month or two ago she spent over $300.00 on it! The people at Kroger recognised her and the manager's father took her back to the ALF. The woman who called said she had spoken to SIL about not telling them when she is leaving and they put an ankle bracelet on her so it will set off an alarm when she gets to an outside door. This morning I went to my women's circle and when I got home DH had a note for me to call Casey. I don't know any Casey and figured whoever it was they would could back. They did and the name was Tracy! They were giving me a heads up about checking Alzheimer's facilities for SIL. I understand their concern you never know who's car SIL will get into as long as she is getting her way. I know she will raise hell when they want to move her and more hell because she won't be able to take her cat.
I knew it was just a matter of time before the ALF wouldn't be able to keep her so maybe this happened for the best. Stay tuned for more.lol.

You don't know my SIL. If she wants to do something she will find a way. Plus an Assisted Living Facility does not have lock down and as long as the residents sign out they can leave for a while.

ol don, the ALF my SIL was/is in wasn't set up for people with ALZ. If things had gone the way I wanted she would have gone to an ALF that had an Alz unit and chances are none of this would have happened. Now she will be moved about 40 minutes away to and Alz facility that has lock down. I just hope the move goes well without her raising hell with everyone there. BTW, where SIL is they have Country Club after the name so that should be a clue that they aren't equipped to handle Alzheimer's patients.

jean this is one of those cases we heard about a while ago that you may need guardianship over her if she doesnt want to move. i hope it goes well for her as well as you. as we read if they are able to voice negative opinions on where they are going and placed the facility may not be too willing to keep them against their will.

They have already spoken to SIL and apparently she is okay with it. In fact they aren't sure she understood what they were saying and things are in the works to have her move within the next week or so. I just want it over with so I'll know she can't be taking off and getting into stranger's cars.
